Deer calls are the worst thing for my hunt

I've found the problem to my 2 year slump in mature deer activity... ive been hunting a mature 10 point and saw him again today... only to spook him... i blind call with the grunt... i was unaware that he was "scoping" out the area and he must have saw me or winded me... i'm done with the blind calls.. it gives the deer a reason to seek me out... from now on i'm only grunting/tip can when a deers in sight

thoughts?

i've been hunting around 15 times this year.. and had 3-4 different deer blow at me for any given reason... my culprit blind calling

Umm thats usually the best thing to do is to call when you have a deer in sight.;)

I learned something about blind calling when I was hunting up north 2 years ago. I did a small rattling sequence. About 10 mins later I saw a slight flicker in between two snow covered spruce trees at 20yrds. I thought it was just a little bird in the tree. Then it stuck it's head out, and I saw the biggest buck of my life standing there!I didn't see (too thick)or hearhim coming because of the foot of snow we had. I have no idea how long he had been there looking for the "fight".
What I learned was when a buck comes to a call he willUSUALLY come in rather slowly and scan the area for the source of the noise. They do not like to commit themselves, that's how they get big.;)I also learned that when they can't find the source they don't hang around long at all! I wasn't able to get a clean shot at him, and ende up watching him walk out of my life. I'll never forget that day as long as I live.
I took this pic from my stand that shows the 2 spruces that he was standing between. They really use the cover to their advantage, that's for sure!

I would say you are calling to much or not looking around enough between calls. It happens when you blind call sometimes you get busted by a deer sneeking in to find out who's in his area. I wouldn't stop calling I would call less and pay attention.

Probably 95% of the success I have had with deer calls has been calling to deer in sight. In that situation I find it works very well. Blind calling has occasionally paid off (I THINK....) but when you blind call and 20 minutes later deer show... and you are in an area deer frequent anyway.... could be coincidence.

its not that im not observant enough... i have found that the deer when responding to a call have to see a source first and "glass" the area... it is a pretty open stand, which means blind calling might be better in thicker stand placeements?

im honestly done with it though... he was in the thick and looking into the open where i was... i even had decent cover

please someone tell me im wrong but when u blind call they get downwind of you and they look until they find something that could be making the noise

Anyone else ever had any success with "The Can". Bucks really seem to respond well all throughout the rut from it but didnt know if anyone had any other opinions. would suggest it myself mathewsshooter
