Nov. 17 So. Maryland Buck
Wind, rain, and possible snow being called for on Tuesday convinced me to take Monday off work to see if the does would be moving, with some bucks trailing.
Sure enough, from first light to about 0730, this guy was trying to corral one specific doe out of a bunch of about 8 in some really thick stuff on the hill above my stand. Eventually, a few of the does came running down the hill, and came right under my stand. One of those does must have been the one he was attracted to because about 20 minutes later, he came following their trail. I knew he was going to stop at a small stream about 20 yards away, and when he did, I was able to get off a good shot. A double lung hit and he only went 40 yards back the way he had come. He's a 4 1/2 year old with a 21"spread, and he field dressed at 209#. His neck right behind the ears was 23". I had seen him earlier in the season, but I couldn't get a shot, and I'm almost positive that I had passed on him the year before. ![]() ![]() |
