Need to know a good broadhead to buy?
 

Going to be hunting Caribou and moose. I have only been shooting target arrows so far, can any of you expert veteran hunters give me any thoughts on which broadhead/arrow combinations I should look into? thanks

What bow set-up will you be shooting??.....#, speed etc.?

Although I've never hunted either <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> I think it's safe to say that you'll want a quality &quot;Cut on Contact&quot;(Magnus etc.) or Fixed Replaceable broadhead (Muzzy etc.)attached to a pretty heavy arrow. Me personally.....I'd be at or above 500 grains for moose.
Don't even look at the rack of Mechanical heads!

Caribou......you could probably get away with whatever you'd use for deer.....they aren't huge and any quality fixed blade head (Muzzy etc.) on a mid weight arrow (400+ grs.)should suffice ......Mechanicals are a possibilty depending upon your arrow energy.....If you decide to go this route, the Rocky Mt Archery &quot;Snyper&quot; would be a great choice, as would Rocket Aerohead's &quot;Steelhead&quot; . Both penetrate as well as fixed heads and open quickly and using little energy to do so.

In either case make sure that they are SHAVING sharp......and as always, put em' where they count!:)

Personaly,(pssss..Muzzy)I dont have a (Muzzy) preference in broadmuzzyheads, but there are lots of Muzzys on the market that will do the job for you. Okay, I might be a little biased, but with good reason. Muzzy makes a really good broadhead, I've settled on the 3 blade 125gr. Believe me, they are worth looking into. And welcome aboard!

I would just stick with a good fixed blade quality head(muzzy,thunderhead) and I would stay with a 125 or 100 grain head.

articman, welcome to the board! just what we need more alaskans. personaly i use bear razorheads. they fly great and ive had pass throughs on both animals i shot this year. a moose and a caribou. both went down in about 50 yds. if you want i could let you try a few different ones i have. dont live too far away.

WELCOME TO THE BOARD . IF YOU HAVE NOT FOUND THE ALASKA THREAD IN THE WEST FORUM COME OVER AND SAY HI. WE HAVE AT LEAST 3 FROM FAIRBANKS AND THEN A FEW OTHERS FROM AK.

TO ANSWER YOUR ? I REALLY LIKE SATELLITE TITANS. THEY ARE HEAVY DUTY AND ARE CUT ON IMPACT. SOME OF MY FRIENDS HAVE HAD GREAT RESULTS WITH MUZZY. WELCOME AGAIN - PAT

arcticman - A lot of great heads out there. If your bow is properly set up (tuned) then you should be able to shoot about any head you want. With a compound, I would choose Muzzy on caribou and moose. On deer, I sure liked the results of the Shockwave expandables, but I aint got enough faith in them for bigger animals. Right now I have Magnus 125gr 2 blade, and I like them.
