Please explain the new Mathews bows?

Ok im a little confused here. Im looking at the new Mathews bows and hear all this "Mcpherson" talk. Is it a Mathews or Mcpherson bow? They hardly even look like Mathews bows.

All I know is...my shop got one of the new 340IBO bows in....and he shot his hunting arrow through it, today. The one he chrono'd was a 29" (instead of a 30")....and the arrow weight was 6gr over IBO.

298fps.:D

RE: Please explain the new Mathews bows?

Matt McPherson is the creator of Mathews bows. Therefore the "McPherson" talk.

That's about what I thought. So 356 @ 29" = 298fps Wow. What did you shop owner say?

Honestly? He said anyone who shot the Bowtech line and then shot the Mathews.....and still bought the Mathews.....

......already had their mind made up they were gonna buy a Mathews.

I've owned a Mathews bow....and it was a solid shooter. These are not my words. I have nothing against the line...and would shoot another in a minute if I decided to switch brands.

Mathews for me is kinda like Penn State, or the Yankees. I don't really have anything against the team, it's the knucklehead fans that drive me nuts, the ones that scream we're number one all day everyday, even when it's obvious they're not. For example, I am an Oriole fan and I know we ain't number one, so I don't blindly scream it. I'll give the Yankees (Mathews) props when its due, but this round I will stay silent.

If his chrono only said 298 he might wanna get it checked. Theres absolutely no way in hell that a bow with an IBO of 340 will shoot at 298 with only a difference of an inch on DL and 6 grains on arrow weight. Sooooo what I'm saying is 298 at 29" 70# is a lie to me. Is he a Bowtech supporter? Cause this would make much more sense that way.

I'm with you on this one bud. I've only been into bowhunting for 2 years mind you, but when I first started looking/asking around as to what was the best I heard from a lot of Yankees Fans;) then i somehow managed to stumble across a local bowtech dealer and from what he told me and the background research I did I decided on a bowtech without ever even shooting a mathewes. Granted, this could have been a mistake on my part, however, I couldn't be happier with bowtech and I also enjoy the company of the less "abrassive" fans:D

Chrono seems to be working jus tfine on the other bows;).

See bolded portion.....

So you read what he did and automatically think the "off" part has to be chrono? Interesting.

Yes. He's a Bowtech supporter. He sells them. He's also a Mathews supporter. He sells MORE of them. It makes no sense, to me, for him to lie about something that's so readily able to be checked. I'll be in there, tomorrow, and I'll so just that.

The bow DID have a WB and a D-loop on it....but nothing else.

Substitute Bowtech for Mathews and Ohio State for Penn State and you just stated my sentiments exactly.:)[8D];) This site is the world's worst on it as well. It has settled down some since back when people began picking up staff positions and a few people got the notion in their head that they too could be staffers, BT was pushed hard, but to no availe, the staffers were chosen, for good reason, and it was left at that.

My buddy must have a busted chrono then:eek:, he works at a mathews shop as well....they shot one with a light hunting arrow (IBO 350 arrow) at 29" and 70# and got 330...out of the 340 IBO bow.

If I wasn't a Hoyt shooter, I'd buy a Mathews. Next time I am in the market, I will shoot both lines and buy the one I like best. It isn't a brand loyalty really, just a shop loyalty kind of deal.

Fingerz have you ever read a archery book or mag. arrow weight, nock, d-loop all thos things slowthe Kinetic energy down in sense slow the arrow down quiet a bit., So yeah if you have all that garbage on you bow with a BOW Supposibly shooting 340FPS and only reads 298 on the chrono then yes im a taker...but we all know that alot of BOW companies say one thing and then do another..SO 340fps is the new 290ish.fps. You wouldnt say...

Tell ya what I'll do.....

I don't have a dog in this fight.....but I'll take my bow in as well and chrono it at the same time (I need to anyways). We'll know real quick if the machine is "off", but it's the same machine I've been using on my bows for years. I'll snap some photos.

I'd shoot a Mathews if I didn't shoot the bow I currently shoot. I killed a few deer with my Switchback and loved the bow.

Nor do I, just think something is wrong when numbers are off by over 40 fps when it should be closer to 10-15....maybe it is just alot slower than advertised....but my buddy called me and told me about getting 330....I wasnt there so I cant vouch for it.

I don't care if its off my 5 fps...that's still a lie IMO. I want an honest 340 if a company says it. Matt / PA claims that Bowtech didn't fudge their test setups a bit when they came up with their 09 IBO speeds. He says that people may even be surprised that their bow is a touch faster than toted. That's a theory that I can get behind.

BEN/ PA im with you man if it is advertised as 340fps it should not be chronoed at 300...its a lie why would i pay 899 for a bow that shoots suposibly 340fps when you can spend 500 and get a ligitiment 315-320fps bow..IMO thats False advertisment..

Bring it to my shop. I'll vouch for it before the jury. And I'll have all the new Mathews, Hoyts and Bowtechs in a row and we'll see whose closest.

Hell for old time sake I might even take you duck hunting. :D

All I gotta say here is that if that bow really only produced that speed and Mathews has certifed it at 340... then there will probably be a lawsuit. A few FPS is common place... heck 10 is even accepted.... but 42..... something is amiss... either there were additional excentrics on the string or what... I don't know.

How many times did he shoot it? This is a shoot through not a shoot over correct?

I don't know what kind it is. It's the one with the wire "traingle" shaped thing you shoot through. That's the only one I've ever seen.

Swamp....IBO is off of 30" draw (this one is 29"). IBO = nothing on string. This one had a D-loop and was shot through a WB.

That's still a heckuva discrepancy.

Have you shot your Guardian through the Chrono? The guy who owns the shop where I work has one and he's getting 317 out of it, of course, he does a lot of extra tuning and "cheating" to get a few extra FPS

Depending on the website, you can substitute Mathews for any other bow maker and this same thread is going on nationwide. It's funny really...they all make super, top of the line, quality bows and yet depending on where you are, or who you are talking to..... you could be led to believe that they are all crap.

Feel free to do the math. A hunt ready (peep, tied in, nock set KNOTS, loop and factory silencers) Bowtech admiral at 29" with a 412 gr arrow at 65#s produced 282fps three times through the chrono. Don't know if it works out to about IBO or BC or not... but its a good speed for a moderate weight arrow at a fairly conservitive draw weight.

Thanks for the lesson about IBO

You'll lose 10-12 fps on average... that would put it at 328-330. You never said it had a loop or a WB. Might want to go back and edit that one. A WB can suck out another 5-7 fps and depending on exactly how he does his nocks/nock sets and loop... you could easily suck it down to around 300... which really wouldn't be a discrepancy at all.

I'm still reserving judgement until I see it with my own eyes. I drew the Reezen 6.5 promo when it came in the shop. Didn't put the whop chuey on it since it has the boss's name on it, not mine, and he wasn't in til today... and I was hunting today. I did like the balance, though the draw was not exactly a Switchback XT. Friday should be demo day. Hopefully the hoyts will finally show up.

I hope someone has the program to get this close cause I am curious. Add 5#, drop 52 grains, and grow the draw an inch, I am betting that gets you real close to IBO.

My Diamond Marquis(Bowtech) at 64# 305gr went 304 to 306fps with a peep and tube. Dont know alot about bows but this is what mine did.

RE: Please explain the new Mathews bows?

Yes, when I bought the bow fromMatt (Rick James) I set it up and was getting close to 307. Right now she is closer to 298-300 as I dropped a few lbs of draw weight. The reason I ask had anyone ran one threw a chrono was because it was made out that Mathews lies and they are the devil. If that is the case all bows are crap and do not meet IBO. I like all bows especially Mathews/Hoyt/Bowtech so I have no dog, just wandering why all the hostility.

I didn't know I was campaigning Pat. I had no problems when your bow was new, cause it was inovative and top notch. We shot the new 6.5 reezen yesturday. We got in the 330 fps range on 5 shots with the IBO 350 grain arrow at the 30" draw. I guess to each there own. I am one who will be buying a new bow in the off season and it is down to a Mathews Reezen 6.5, Monsteror Bowtech Iceman, or Black Ice. Either way there both superior bow makers and have there faults.

Campaigning is the method of using a medium to get your voice heard.

I don't mean any disrespect bud. I've had some major problems with my XT days after I bought it...and am no way a Mathews fanboy. I was hoping Bowtech was going to have something very short and light to compete with Mathews' DXT from last year. The Admiral is a nice bow, but it wasn't as smooth for me as the DXT. So I waited for Mathews '09 lineup...and was really pissed they dumbed down they DXT to the "HyperLite."

Long story short, I'm anti stereo-types. This goes without saying the hilljacks who run the local Bowtech and Mathews shop. The recently just got their Mathews license...after YEARS of bashing the hell out of them. Now those same guys think that a Mathewsbow made from the blood and bones of Jesus himself.

I haven't shot it yet Pat, but the Iceman is on my list. I am in the market for one thing this year, a short smooth bow for the turkey blind. I am hoping the Iceman is it. Just on specs alone, I don't know why anyone would buy an Admiral over an Iceman. Same speed, but Iceman is a single cam. Its almost got to be more smooth. Who knows, I gots 3D season to get through first before I get mine though.

That's funny seeing how Bowtech advertises its bow speedswith a fluctuation of 8lbs. Which one is it, 342 or 350? Don't get me wrong, I think BT makes a good bow, just like Hoyt and Mathews, but I think it's hilarious how you guys get on here and rake Mathews shooters accross the coals for believing Mathews is the best, when the truth is you BT shooters believe the same thing!

Honestly, you should believe what you're shooting is the best, or why would you be shooting it?

I'm in the market for a new bow, and I plan to shoot BT, Mathews, and Hoyt; the one that feels the best is the one I'll be shooting.

I must say though, there is something wrong if theReezen is only shooting 298! That's just really hard to believe. I have an old Feather Max thatshoots 295.
