Un-welcome noise!!

When I'm not shooting as much as earlier in the season I like to just draw and ease off on my bow several times a dayto keep my muscles in tune. I just noticed a faint little noise coming fromthe top cam of my Vectrix when I ease it off. It doesn't do this on the draw.THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! Especially when I'm going to Alberta next week! Any thoughts on what to use (that doesn't smell)to make itgo away?
You never know when you might have to ease off if the proper shot doesn'tpresent itself. It alreadyhappened to me just this season. Any help is appreciated.

I agree get it to a pro shop. They will tear the top cam off and check the bearings. They have scentless oil that they will put on it if they cannot find anything wrong. Also check the screws in the cam and make sure one hasn't backed off and is rubbing something. Good luck in Alberta!

Thank yourazor, but there aren't any screws. The cam is on a shaft with spacersand clips on the ends.

Sounds your bearing might be shot. Im not sure But i think its becase your drawing slowly and letting down a little slower...But i think your bearing is bad....bring it to the shop had that on my old magnatec and my bearing had gone bad.

If the bearing was shot wouldn't it make noise on the draw as well? This is an '07 Vectrix XL with, I'm guessing, maybe 1000 shots fired from it. Also, wouldn't you get some cam lean (which I don't have)from shot bearings?I was hunting in the rain a little bit lately. Perhaps this could have something to do with it.

could be but i didnt get cam lean with bad bearing when the bearing is moving slower it might not make a noise. The fast the bearing moves the more noise it makes could be...not saying it is just a suggestion....sounds like a bearing thats all...

I know that there are no screws on the actual axle, but the cam itself does.

I would try an approved lubricant before I took anything apart this close to your trip. With 1000 shots, the bearing is not really suspect. This would be like the wheel falling off a car on the way home from the dealership. Just needs alittle TLC after the wet hunting trips.

Which cam do you have? From the manual:

ECCENTRIC LUBRICATION

Cam & 1/2 Performance System bows (except for Versa Cam & 1/2) feature sealed ball bearings which do not require lubrication.
For conventional bearings or bushings, such as those found on AccuWheel and Versa Cam & 1/2, a light spot lubrication of the axles where they pass through the eccentric should be done on a regular basis (1,500 - 2,000 shots). In adverse hunting conditions where dirt, dust or moisture are encountered, lubrication may be done on a daily basis. Hoyt recommends you use a silicone or Teflon based lubrication or any other quality grease available at your local Hoyt Pro Shop. It is
NOT recommended that you use "Penetrating Oils" such as WD-40, EZ-#7, Fast Break, etc.

Early...get to the shop. Trust me, nothing like investing in a big trip and second guessing your equipment. You'll get it resolved.

Thank you Kelly! You're absolutely right. I totally forgotthat my cam & 1/2'shave sealed bearings. Duh!!:DI like the new car analogy, that was spot on.I feel MUCH better now. I didn't really think it was the bow perse. I'll take care of this little matter before I leave. You can bet the ranch on that!;)Again, thanks.

I'm good about bow maintenance, so I thought I'd give my string and cables some extra wax before going north. I included the servings as well. The un-welcome noise is now gone!! I love an easy fix.I'm a happy camper.:D

Hey just thought I'd tell you that if that doesnt work you should bring the poundage down a bit and then bring it back up. I took my bow into the shop when mine started to make a slight sound, and it just ended up being a little paint that was chipping. It was just as you are explaining when I let down slowly. Just give it a shot, if the lube doesn't work.

Just a thought.

Come on early, you've been around awhile, figure it out. I don't know about these newer hoyts but the only time my 05 hoyt has ever given me a noise it was the small round wheels that the yoke attached too. A shot of something took care of it for a year. It never did it this past year. Maybe gibblet had something to do with it. I miss that guy. Happy that he's doing so well though.

I've never been in a shop that knew more, hell as much as I do, andI don't claim to be an expert.

Evidently my last post isn't being read very carefully. I said I waxed my string and cables, and the noise is gone. But thanks for the help.;)

Take it to a bowshop and see what they have to say. Should invest in a mid-value backup bow just in case you have a problem.

A little late to dive into it now Id take it how it is get if fixed when it comes back, cause then you wont have to worry about "what if they have to send it out to fix it" and then there you stand without any bow.

Ryan.

Yes Kelly, I'm Alberta bound on Sat morning! And yes, I got it fixed. Thanks for asking. I thought I'd give the string and cables a nice waxing before I left, andafter I did that I drew back and eased off to see if it made any difference. The noise was gone! I think for some reason it had something to do with having it out in the rain last week. I'm not sure, allI know isthat noise isgone. I'm a happy camper! Again, thanks for asking.;)
