LW Sit and Climb vs. Summit Viper?
This is directed at only those who have used both of these stands. I know it may have been asked before, but I need to know what you think.
What are the benefits/drawbacks you have experienced with both stands? Would you rate one quieter than the other? Is one more comfortable than the other? How have you modified either for your personal tastes? Is it easier to carry one with a pack attached than the other? Any and all info appreciated. Thanks, LT |

Would you rate one quieter than the other? Is one more comfortable than the other? How have you modified either for your personal tastes? LW...I added the LW saddle bag. I keep my tether, bow hook, pruning saw, gum-o-flage haul line and a flashlight in it...and I don't have to carry a pack, this way. Best $20 I spent this year, probably. Is it easier to carry one with a pack attached than the other? |
RE: LW Sit and Climb vs. Summit Viper?
Jeff, would you think that changing the LW seat to a Summit Viper type seat would make it as comfortable as the Viper, or is there something else making the LW uncomfortable?

RE: LW Sit and Climb vs. Summit Viper?
LT...."something else".
That would be the locationof the seat. It's too close to the tree to allow for maximum comfort. What that means, though....is that it's BETTER to actually HUNT out of. I've found (through varying the seat adjustments) that the seat is more comfortable in the "up" position of adjustment. It's also a lot easier to get on your feet at a moment's notice. Biggest obstacle (if you wanna call it that) I'm having with the LW is the seat getting in the way as I climb/descend. It's a PITA, really. My binos and hand muff make it a tricky ordeal. If they'd come u with a way to secure it further from the tree for ascent/descent they'd make a lot of people happy. Only other "negative" I have with mine is.....the bungee needs to stay attached to the stand all the time. It's a (&$^#% to find sometimes (as I sometimes leave it at the base of my tree) in the dark. If they'd come up with a way to keep it attached (brainstorm....I'm gonna do just that, today) it would help. In saying all this, though....I'd take the LW over the Summit ANY DAY. Quietness....ease of packing.....silence on stand are the reasons. I've climbed 63 out of 65 sits this year. |

RE: LW Sit and Climb vs. Summit Viper?
I need to get in one of these stands to see what you are refferring to about the way the seat is too close to the tree. If I can find a way to make it more, or "as" comfortable as my Viper, I am thinking of pulling the trigger on one. I have a bad back and the lighter, the better. (I have a pack that I am trimming the contents down some.)
Thanks for the info. LT |
RE: LW Sit and Climb vs. Summit Viper?
It actually weighs about the same as the viper. But youd never know it to pack each. The LW rides higher on your back...and packs MUCH easier.
If you put them both on your back....you'll buy the LW. |
RE: LW Sit and Climb vs. Summit Viper?
What keeps the seat from being moved away from the tree on ascent/descent? Could this be because there is not enough room between the hunter and the seat as you climb?

Sounds like a comfortable, easily attachable/detachable seat may be the only answer other than a LW re-design.
