Default Where to put the doe decoy?

I really blew it on my first attempt. The decoy worked perfectly, the placement did not. Assume I am facing the direction the deer will be crossing or coming from and I can only shoot to my immediate left and immediateright and slightly behind me. Attempt 1 had the decoy to my immediate right just behind my shooting lane, 15 yards out, decoy quartering to me with the rump facing the way I thought the deer would come from. My thinking was a buck would circle about 5 yards or so to the rear of the deer and be broadside at 20 yards. Wrong! Buck circled about 15 yards behind the decoy so when it approached it was walking straight at me down my shooting lane. No shot.

For attempt 2 I am thinking about putting the decoy 15 yards behind my stand instead of parallel to it so any approaching bucks will have to cross my shooting lane broadside before they can approach the decoy's rump. Any thoughts?
