Holy crap!! I've never even seen a dead tree fall in the woods much less had one come down on me.
John....I was hunting in '05 and had one fall.....a BIG one about 40yds to my right. I was gunshy as heck for a LONG time...and I still admit to looking around me at the trees I'm NOT in when it's windy.;)

That is crazy, Gary! I went to hunt a stand last Saturday afternoon in the high winds near a swamp. I was about 20 yards from the stand when a 50 ft dead tree came down about 40 yards away.Sure scared the crap out ofthe 5 deer bedded in that area! Iopted for a different stand away from dead trees.;)

Odds of shooting a pope & young buck in MI 1 in 5166

Odds of a tree falling on you 1 in 100,000,000

Guess which one happen to me tonight[&:]

After walking by a dead tree I though I heard something. I turn a bit and by pack bumped the tree. The tree the started to full, my normal panther like reflexes were shaken a bit. As I was just plain stunned as whatwas happing. About half way up the tree snapped and the top half took me out like one of BigJ71 guns. After laying on the ground for 5 mins and bleeding from the head, I did a check of the systems. I was ok, I managed to throw by bow to the side and it came away un-harmed.

I have bump on my head, and I swear I heard some racoons laughing at me:D

Good thing you managed to save the bow. maybe next time you can worry about saving the ol' noggin;):D:D

Glad to hear that you are OK

It's especially scary when you go into a place you've never been and climb up a tree. Daylight comes and you find the busted off top hanging over your head.[&:]
I've actually done this before....I scouted an area I wanted to hunt on my families property in late winter after the season ended. It looked like it would be a good place to see deer (lots of tracks in the snow bedding areas etc....) Well fast forward to the next year, I made it down to the land very early in the morning andI was pressed for time due to the long drive. I wanted to be up in a tree before the sun came up so I grabbed my climber and headed into that area I had scouted the year before to see if I could get lucky....boy did I ever!

You see I found this tree that "looked" straight and as I started to climb it I came across a few branches that had to be removed but they all broke off easily with my hand....I should have known right then and there something wasn't right. It was mid October and most of the trees had their leaves still. I get settled and wait for the sun to come up. As the light grew brighter I realized thattree I was in had no leaves...in fact it barely had branches! There was only about 15 ft of tree above me with a few branches still sprouting from it, above that was broken off andlaying on the ground below. I could tell it had been down there for a while and realized this tree was as dead as can bewith me in it![&:]

I never sweated so much thattrip down the tree. It seemed like ever time I put weight on either the top or bottom portion of the climber thetree was going to come down......on me!The tree eventually did fall less than a month later.......I was lucky indeed.

Well just think of the scenario another hunter could have come along and stole your bow and gear and just walked away...Hmmmm
