need advice on the best fixed blade broadhead???

I need help on getting a fixed blade broadhead. i have been useing mechanical ones the last three years and am just not happy with any. the rage have worked good but don't like to have to keep checking to see if the blades are locked into the rubberband.i want to switch to a fixed blade one but need one that doesn't plane after 30 yrds?

Your gonna get a ton of different answers on this one!! I personally dont have a problem with Muzzy or Slick Trick!! I am using 100Grn Slick Trick Mags and they fly great!!

Take a look at the top of the bowhunting page and there is about 16(?) pages of sucessful broadhead kills for this year, check them out and see what Fixed Head seems to be favored!!! Gd Luck!!

Slick Trick Magnums do the job.The does my brother and Ishot this year didn't go more than 40-50 yards.

There are four or five that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I shoot slicktrick's myself, and I've shot them on targets out to 80 yards. They are limited only by my poor shooting.

Slick Tricks

Tried and tested... hard to improve on... NAP Thunderheads.

G5 Montec

G5 Striker or Wac'Ems

Wasp's

And an often overlooked head that is one of the strongest five piece heads ever made, InnerLoc's.

I agree here. I too really like the Slick Tricks. They fly great, cut some awe inspiring holes, they're really tough, extremely sharp, and are probably the most economical broadhead with very economical replacmentblades.

I used the Montec for a few years and had good sucess with them. The ONLY problem I had was that I could never get them to fly just like my FT's. I did kill my share of elk and deer with them though. The Hellrazor is very similar to the Montec. I also have several buddies using the Muzzys and they consistantly take game with them too. Several have switched to Slick Tricks too mostly because of the price.

BTW IMHO its a good move to go fixed BH's.

Good luck

I have no personal experience with this head but have heard it is nothing but a Muzzy but better made!! This also might be an option to check out, definantely look TOUGHER then a Muzzy!!!

Whether I'm at the track or in the woods, it always has to be with the slickies! Tried many others. Nothing even half way impressed me like they do.

It's not just the broadhead. It's a combination the the bow, broadhead and ARROW. Buy the best straightest arrows you can afford. Go for the best level of straightness. If the bow is tuned, most will shoot just fine. I've used probably 15 different broadheads to kill deer. My favorites are the Thunderhead and the one I'm using presently, the Shuttle T by Tight Point. The Muzzy is a close 3rd but just didn't group as well for my bow as the Thunderhead. If they aren't flying right.... they won't kill right.

RE: need advice on the best fixed blade broadhead???

Slick Trick Magnums fly as good as ANY Fixed BH I've ever shot. NOTHING I've tried compares. They even fly well out of a "half-tuned" bow!!! I HONESTLY think they fly better than my FP's sometimes, though I know that doesn't make any sense, it's the "GOD's Honest truth!!!"

As has been said, there are NUMEROUS good ones out there, even the CHEAPO ones you can buy at Wally World are capable of clean kills if you put them where they belong.

One more vote for Tricks. My bow is tuned well and most heads hit where I aim, without a doubt Slick Tricks give me the smallest group size. I'm using the 100 grain magnums.

I've tried a bunchof fixed heads. Had great luck with many, but the slicktricks are my favorite by far....

You can't deny the tried and true thunderheads. Bad shots, good shots they've never let me down.

Ryan....I bought a pck of these Saturday....and I plan on experimenting with them soon. REAL soon. I'm looking to pick up some FOC/Weight/KE with a heavier arrow....and these might make it onto the end.

RE: need advice on the best fixed blade broadhead???

Let me know how that goes Jeff. Earlier this season I had momentarily considered switching from my beloved thunderheads because of the tediousness to find ones that spin true on my arrows. Granted, these are all heads that are at least 8 years old when I stocked up on a "lifetime" supply.
I was wondering if the newer heads would be easier to get spinning true, because after this hit I had on this buck, those heads reassured me that they are once again, capable of putting down a deer even on a marginal hit. And if new models easily spin true, that is what my choice will be.

Ryan,
Pick up a pack of ST's and those Thunderheads will become "Collector's Items!!!" :D I fought with T-Heads to get them right, and went to Muzzy, then tried "junk" Eastman's that are like a combination of the two, and they flew better than either of the above, but nothing flies like a ST IMVHO.

I ordered the inserts....and the vanes/wraps, today. If I can get the arrow worked out....I'll have them built to test, Thursday.

I'll let you know how it goes, Ryan.

I use the Muzzy 100gr. 3 blade. I would recommend them to anyone. They also have practice blades to use so you don't have to dull up yourhunting blades.

Another vote for Slick Trick 100 grMagnums. Only fixedBH I've tried that flies good over 300 fps.

It seems like Rocky Mountain fixed blade heads have fallen in popularity. It is the same company that makes the almighty Rage, and I am wondering if the compay has basically stopped marketing their fixed blades entirely because of the Rage success.
Does anyone on here shoot a rocky mountain fixed blade?
I have shot the Ironhead and Blitz, they are both fixed point accurate out to 40 yards. The ironhead dropped a big 8point in thirty yards and I havent hit one with blitz yet so I cant say how it performs on deer. My local bow shop sells more ironheads than any other fixed blade.

I prefer a cut on contact fixed blade myself. I am currently using Magnus Stinger 4 blades and have taken two deer with them this year and have been very impressed with them. like the slick tricks the Stingers seem to have a pretty big following.

Another vote for Magnus - Stingers and Snuffers are great heads. I currently use the Stinger 4 blades.
They are outstanding.

I do like the slick tricks, never tried them though - but I like the way they are built and can see why they are so tough. I've used Muzzy's with great success too.

Thunderhead or Muzzy. Although Rage is the best if you want an awesome broadhead.

It's a shame they don't make the Satellite Titans anymore. My favorite for many years.

RE: need advice on the best fixed blade broadhead???

Ill give my .02: I'm currently using G5 Strikers 100grn. They are a COC "bone crusher" all in one. They are by far the sharpest blades I have ever felt, Rage doesnt even come close, though I love the Rage heads also. But as far as sharpness, Ive never felt anything that holds a candle, i.e. Rage, thunderhead, muzzy, and various other cheapy's I dont remember the name of.

They fly awesome. period. Both my Bear element and Bowtech Ally were set-up mainly by eye, no pape tuning or anything like that. And they fly right with my field tips.
