Buck Number Two Down

After filling my Ohio buck tag i decided to go with my father in law to his place in Indiana last night. Right as the light was fading i decided that it was time to pack it up and climb down. As soon as i stood up this buck stepped out of a thicket at 20 yards and presented a perfect broadside shot. He only went about 70 yards and i could hear him crash. By the time i got down from my tree it was pitch black out and all i had was a little head lamp to guide me. I recovered the buck and was in the process of dragging him out when i realized that i had lost all since of direction and had no clue of which way to go. I kind of got freaked out because i couldn't get any phone service and my yells for my father in law were unanswered. So i decided to leave the deer in the middle of a dry creek bed and try to find my way out. It took about an hour to get back to my truck. After that we proceeded to head back into the woods to get this deer. For the life of us we could not find this thing, we had no idea how many dried up creek beds were out there. Finally after a couple of hours we found him and drug him at least a quarter mile back to the truck. I got home at about 1:00 a.m. last night and i am exhausted to say the least.

Anyway he would be a nice sized six point if only his other side was not all deformed.

HAHA Your both invited to come to Carolina and kill all the does you want if you let me come handle the "Only seeing Bucks" problem. HAHA God I miss Indiana. I lived in Richmond and still have some good land up there, but never get the chance to go home and hunt.

Congrats buddy,he's a fine deer!

You can get a gps off Ebay for under $100 (try a magellan 320). Well worth the money in situations like this. Glad you're safely out of the woods.

Nice man congrats.

I've been seeing the oposite...mostly does and small bucks. Haven't been able to get a shot. My daughter and I got out though...long story short she took a shot at a nice doe and it deflected and just nicked her back.

Congrats on a second buck. Look at it this way, you took a deformed deer out of the jean pool. Glad you made it home safe.

Just something to help with not getting lost if you dont have a GPS or compass, you should always have a point of reference to go from, hence your tree. I assume you were in a climber, get a LED light that you can attach to your seat or railing, the light is bright enough for you to see at nite, even at 70+ yds away, that will help get you back to your reference point and you can work your way out of the woods from there. You can buy the 3 LED clip on lights for like $10 and they clip onto your hat, shirt, seats, etc. Congrats on the buck.

Congrats on number 2. As far as the creek beds. Man, you folks need some rain out there. I've never seen it so bad. Every creek is bone dry, just NO water flowing in Western Ohio or Eastern Indiana.
