I shot a spike two years ago, perfect shot, perfect pass through. I recovered the arrow and there was absolutely no blood on the arrow. I thought for a couple seconds if i missed it or not, even though I KNEW i made a good hit. He ran 35 yards a dropped. (Sonic 100grn...for anyone thinking theyre too small to kill).

I've seen this countless times on carbon arrows with good and bad shots. These arrows seem not to grab the blood very well compared to aluminum's. It drives me nuts when I can't read an arrow from someone on there pass through before we go tracking![:@]

I shot doe about 2 weeks ago. 15 yard broadside. hit her dead center of the lungs with a mid lower mid body exit wound. I saw her run off and saw blood foaming up out of the entrance wound. I then see her stop stand a min and fall dead. I climb down and check the arrow and follow the blood trail. The arrow was almost clean maybe just a tine streak on one side, with some hair on the broadhead. The blood trail didn't begin until about 10 yards out and was sparse at first but quickly picked up to the point that 25 yards in it was easy trailing. If I didn't see the deer go down I would have been more than a little worried about the hit, considering how the arrow looked and the initail lack of blood.

I was feeling ok about a buck that I missed on Thursday night until I read this thread. Arrow was clean except some hair on the blade and a little blood on the blade. Arrow (carbon) was clean. Thought at first the shot was perfect but the arrow or the impact site had no blood. I checked the next 5 yards and nothing. I thought I heard him crash, but after I thought I missed, put it off as him jumping. Now I am feeling ill and will have to go back to make sure he didn't start bleeding afterwords and did die.

that's why I like to put plain white wraps on my arrows. you can see what shade the blood is, and how much is really on the arrow. :D

sounds likea miss to me. If you hit a deer with an arrow and it passes through, it will have to have blood on it. If not, perhaps your eyes are playing tricks on you. Many a deer have been known to duck and jump arrows, and it happens so fast, it may accually look like they got hit.
