First VA Buck Down!!
FINALLY!
Well guys this has been a long time coming (last bow buck was in 04), I had time off this week with the sole purpose of going to VA to do some muzzleloader hunting, well, bow season is still in for deer and bear, so naturally I too my bow. I already knew what tree I was going to hunt, after many scouting trips and summer watchings, a perfect pinch point at the edge of a small food plot and a steep bluff that is in back of bedding areas... The spot was only going to allow 40 yrd shots in all directions so I left the muzzleloader the case and headed out Wed morn for my first hunt in VA this year.
630 AM - 2 dozen turkeys work up the ridge to me only to be run off by a four point skirting the ridge like planned...
745 AM - This 8 pt steps into the edge of the food plot at the back of the ridge. I take a glance and quickly decide he is big enough for me (He is right at my min and I'm happy with him), then takes another step and his head is behind a tree, I draw and assume the position (since its so steep I was nearly eye level and didnt stand for the shot) he steps out facing right at me!!! Terrible shot im thinking, well just then my seat makes a slight noise as I adjust to get him if he continues under me, he looks right at me 10 yrds out. Probably thinking why is there something shaking in that tree!!! We'll he turns to go down wind of me an presents a nice broadside shot, I think "AIM FOR EXIT HOLE" smack! I nailed him, he runs back where he came from. I waited 45 min and got down, he only made it 50 yrds, I smoked him! He's not my biggest buck, but my first VA bow kill and it means something special to me cause my dad and I were able to make this trip together
