Are you a tailgate down guy?

If you kill a big buck are do you drive around with the tailgate down for everyone to see or do you try to keep it hid and only tell/show good friends. Also why for either one.

I try to keep it hid and only tell close friends. People start puting 2 and 2 together and see your truck parked in certain places and guess what.....you suddenly have unwanted hunting company.

Nope.

I drive it like I stole it. Deer would slide out in a heartbeat.

Well i havent shot a real nice buck yet but did shoot a couple 8 pointers and smaller, but yes i do put my tail gate down, not trying to show it off or anything though, all my gear is in the back by it so i dont have much room

I leave the tailgate up and also keep my tonuae cover closed just do to the fact that I live in the middle of the city pretty much and there are alot of people that would see the deer and might not be to excited about seeing a dead deer just hanging out in the back of someone's pick-up.

I keep the tailgate up. There is usually a big enough crowd whoring around the scales at the check-in station as it is.

Use to be a law here in Wi requiring that part of the deer must be showing.
So everyone kept the tailgate down. Now with my 168 you damn right I did.

I drive with the tailgate up but I strap the head so people can see the rack.

They changed the law here in MA.. You used to HAVE to keep it in sight. Now just a part of it has to be visible.Timeshave changed and now we hide things we shouldn't have to.

To be fair I get about a 50/50 split of middle fingers versus the thumbs up. I can live with that.

It is strange to come out from breakfast and find a circle of people around your truck crying and praying for your deer.

I drive with my tailgate down no matter whatI get. I had it down with my 20lb turkey i had it down with both my does this year. I am proud of my trophys and I want to show them off. I strap them in so they dont fall out of course. I work hard on getting this animals down and they are some of gods greatest creatures. Everybody should show them off so people can see them up close. Thats just my opinion lol :D

This one took a ride with the tailgate down. Wasn't easy to get in the truck so when we did he stayed right there. Not realy worried about showing him off....ok maybe just a little.

But the trip was from the house to the checking station. only 5-6 miles. I didn't parade him around like I have seen people do. But I'm proud of them.

This one rode on the hitch & hual becuse I didn't have the truck at the time.

Never heard that one.

Growing up we hunted a good ways from home. One of my cousins shot a deer and we rode home in there minivan with the deer on top. We stoped at Mcdonnals to get something to eat. We got lots of looks. So we just said "Just making a delivery!"

It never ceases to amaze me how many people have no problem with hamburger and steak but a deer is so cruel etc...

I don't worry about it where I live and hunt and have never had a problem.

Not usually here where I live in the suburbs, but in the country I do.

Man I have never shot a deer in my life untill this year. You bet your a$$ that when I shoot a buck I will be letting everyone know I shot one. I'm going to be doing this even with a small doe or button buck/ woodchuck/ racoon/ squirll. When you haven't killed only but one deer, you let EVERYONE know.

I have one of those gambrels that you attach to your Reese hitch, and I drive all over the place with my deer hanging behind me. Especially when it's hot out, it keeps the meat from overheating and going bad.

Usually I keep the tailgate up. It isn't hard to see the racks of my deer since they usually are taller than the height of my bed! HA HA:D

I try to be as ethical as possible. I don't subject every person I pass on the road to my beliefs and actions just as I expect them to do the same. Forcing people to deal with driving behind a guy with a dead deer in his truckjust seems to define your stereotypical hunter depicted on TV missing 3 teeth, long beard, and uneducated to any extent.

Be classy and respectful...

Good point. Where I live and hunt everyone is pretty much ok with it. I've never had anyone say anything but positive stuff. I definatly do not drive around showing it off. It right to the butcher for me. Less than 10 minute ride.

Where i live i hide it!! First its urban, there are a lot of people that wouldnt approve of me driving down the road with a deer hanging out the back of my truck. Second as its said before i dont want unwanted company. I hunt some pretty good places with big bucks and guys in the area at check stations are always trying to find out where im at, I like it the way it is so i stay low key. I have had a 162" deer stolen out of my back yard! Dont like people knowing.

I try to respectful too but sometimes its hard to do. I live and hunt New Mexico so Sept means elk hunting season. Doesn't matter if the tailgate is up or downif you get a decent elk everyone is going to see it..... or at least the better part of the antlers. I get people who flag me down so I'll pull over and show it. I've also been pulled over by cops who ask if I've been drinking but then start asking about the elk....had that happen just a few weeks ago. I don't mind showing someone but I really try to be mindful of those who don't appreciate either.

Tail gate up. Otherwise, I like being low key. Load it... get home and in the garage out of sight. People have too loose of lips around here and a few have no problem moving into your spots. Then they bring their buddiesand ruin the area.

I hate lying but when it comes to where I shoot my bucks... that is for me to know only!! Well Tyler and the wife know but that is it. I've been burnt even by the boss telling other people to hunt in one of my spots. That torgued me and surprised I didn't get fired when I got into his face about it. [:@] It weren't pretty !! He no longer gets the whole truth and I know a lot of crappy spots he can send people. ;) :D:D
