New world record. You decide.
Milo buck
![]() Decker buck ![]() |
RE: New world record. You decide.
You can't compare the two can you, the Milo is a rifle kill, this one a bowkill. Are they saying this new one will surpass Milo's? Or is it just the new WR P&Y, not B&C?
IMO though, I have more respect for his new one as a bowkill over Milo's lucky shot on a rifle deer drive. The person I feel for is the guy who missed on the drive before Milo's lucky shot. |
RE: New world record. You decide.
After deductions, doubt it.
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
I dont think he'll net it. What amazes me more is that both of these deer were aged at 3.5!

Shouldnt it be compared to Mel Johnson's buck? Or am I missing something?

ORIGINAL: psebwhntr16 Shouldnt it be compared to Mel Johnson's buck? Or am I missing something? Milos was 213 5/8 |
RE: New world record. You decide.
Right, but Mel's was a bowkill, Milo's was a gun kill. Once again, am I missing something?
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
They are saying it should be compared to another "Bowkill" as it was shot with a bow right? Milo's was shot with a gun so it would be in a different class. Just what I get from them saying that you can't compare the two.
Either way, both guys probably outdid the odds of winning the lottery with these two. |

RE: New world record. You decide.
After deductions I can't see it taking over the #1 B&C spot.
For P&Y I don't know. I have been fortunate enough to know Mel Johnson most of my life, so for his sake I want to say no, but that is one heck of a buck. It seems like every year there is a buck that is shot that is rumored to break it, but after deductions always falls up short. Regardless of score though that think would make me fall out of my stand. |
RE: New world record. You decide.
After deduction's I don't think it will net over 200". I really don't. I won't buy that these deer are 3 1/2 either.
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
Milo's was a gun kill, but if I recall, he pursuedthis buck for over a week before he finally killed it.It's not like he was just sitting somewhere that he never hunted and thedeer just popped up in front of him.
Mad props to the guy who killed the other buck, but I would take the Hanson buck. |

Hansen's buck is symetrical, Decker's is not. Hanson keeps the title.
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
My buddy hunted last week at buffalo county outfitters (won the trip WTU) He and his guide who was filming that buck that we have all watchedwere talking. His guide said that buck will never get killed, it had been missed 3 times previously and once with a muzzleloader at 70 yards. This doesn't have much to do with the comparison just an interesting anecdote. It does lay claim that the buck must be over 3.5 years old if it has been missed several seasons in a row, in buffalo county I don't think there are too many people that would shoot at a 1.5 year old deer.

RE: New world record. You decide.
But yall no where Milos buck was shot......>Saskatchewan canada!!!!and i think no one will ever beat milos buck, people have came close but never beet it. and this buck was shot with a bow and there for its Pope And Young and milos was shot with a rifle so that would make it Boone And Crocket so why is there even a comparison?? If I recall, didn't someone hit the Hanson buck in the antler? At one point, I thought they had tape or a cloth over the hole?
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
Comparing buck to buck I think the Hanson buck will end up netting better. I hate net scores, but that's what is used. I think the Decker buck is a better story, but that's allsubjective.
Now for the P&Y record, I think the Decker buck will give the Johnson buck a run. The Decker buck is a main frame 14 with crazy height and mass. It will score well. All in all, I don't care. They are all great bucks and it seems this Decker guy is just a good ole boy hunter which is nice to see. In fact from what I've read of Hanson and Johnson they are both just everyday guys too. |

I dont understand the reason for arguing if hansen was lucky or not? I think the decker gut is damn lucky too. Isn't one of the biggest sayings in hunting "I'd rather be lucky than good". for ANYONE to see a deer even close to those two deer, they are going to need alot of luck on there side. jmo

RE: New world record. You decide.
Too many deductions to beat the typical record.

RE: New world record. You decide.
I am comparing deer antlers only. I obviously respect the bow kill and everything about it more. But when it comes to World Record we are talking striclty antlers even if its roadkill or killed with a rock. Milo's looks more impressive not that they both aren't impressive.

And as stated how symmetrical Milo's buck is there is no way that Decker's will net higher. |
RE: New world record. You decide.
Actually Milo hanson shot it in the rack too. It busted a chunk out of it. I think Monster Bucks 2 has the interview with Him, and He tells about hitting the antler. In the video the rack had black elictrical tape wrapped around the h2 measurment. As for the bucks. It looks like the decker buck would score more.... IF...IF the g3's, andg4's are considered typical. A typical 14 point with that long of tines should come to par, or above the the hanson 12 point.
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
the decker buck as to many non-typical points and will get alot of deductions. the milo buck is a true typical deer
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
This all depends on 1 THING. Does the pannel say the decker bucks curling G5s are typical or non typical. If they say their typical we have a new world record.
|
RE: New world record. You decide.
For scoring a typical, I thought common beam points were a major deduction?
http://leatherwall.bowsite.com/tf/lw/thread2.cfm?forum=23&threadid=182422&messa ges=5&CATEGORY=1 2nd picture down, left side G3, from what little bit I know, that is not a good thing when determining net.... that being said, incredible deer, and no way that I would pass up on a clean shot at that buck. (assuming I could get the shaking under control) |
