It's the RUT. Grunt call question
What is your opinion on grunt calling during the rut.
I usually only grunt call when I spot a buck during the rut. And the results are usually 50/50 depending on what type of mood he is in or whether or not he's king of the area. My question: On Saturday I was doing some short grunts about a half our before dark ( or what we call deer : 30) Have you had any luck in bringing a buck in (that you can't see) by randomly grunting? |
RE: It's the RUT. Grunt call question
Yes about 50 % of the time, It works well and I assume it has no risk so go for it

RE: It's the RUT. Grunt call question
Prerut I have more luck bringing in unseen bucks with grunting and rattling together rather than just grunting alone. Come peak rut, the rattling isn't as effective, but the roar/growl calls sure seem to work well.

RE: It's the RUT. Grunt call question
Depends on how big the buck is and what mood he is in. I've called in almost every buck I've seen this season, but I did kinda spook one. I grunted and snort wheezed at him, but all he did was trot off, so I don't think he was too spooked. He probably thought there was a big buck near by and he just got scared of the snort wheeze because I know he didn't see more or wind me cause he was out in front of me and the wind was in my face. I think grunting, rattling, snort wheezeing, growling, and using the doe bleatcan call are all very important calls to use in the rut.
