Will chased does run a circle

Willdoes being chased run a circle?

The same big buck, I call the "boss of the woods" came right under my stand at 4:30 today on therun chasing a doe. The doe camedown the main run to my left and he was tying to cut heroff. He ranabout 3 1/2 yards under my right shoulder from behind me. No chance for a shot... he was gone.

This is the same old apple orchard I saw him in last Monday but couldn't get a shot as it was real early in the morning. Since then we have had a foot of snow that has melted but has wreaked damage to all the old apple trees. Many are broken and bent over.

Will a doe being chased run a circle and come back through?

Should I have tried to grunt the buck to a stop although I didn't have a good shot opportunity to my right? Also, I'm right handed so mybest shooting is in front or to my left.

I will be back in the same stand again in the morning.

Yes, does will, in fact, run circles, squares and a myriad of other unimaginable shapes when being chased. Does have their home territory in which they feel comfortable, so, while in some cases they are chased out of their territory they often do all that they can to remain in their home area.

Perfectly stated.

I was talking to someone who went to a hunting/tracking camp type thing. He said, the instructor told them that deer have dominant sides like humans have dominant hands....so if the deers right side is dominant (you can tell by looking at tracks of the animal) then that specific deer takes longer strides with their right half resulting in a leftward running circle.

IDK if this even relates to what you're saying, but I thought it was interesting...I guess then if the does is chased long enough, she should form the circle, right? ...but I'm guessing it's more random jumping out of the way of bushes while on the run than any other factor that determines circling.

I have seen them do it, usually when i buck is just hounding them and they still have fawns in a field or something similar.

i watched a little 5 pointer running 2 does this morning and the does just kept running in circles for about 10 mins.....i was also wondering why they would just keep doing circles.
