Just got worda Western New York man who I've met a few times at kids functions has fallen 20 feet out of his stand. I don't know all the details yet but from what my wife said he's broken his shoulder extremely bad, required immediate surgery and broke his pelvis. This rings close to home for me as I broke my shoulder and neck in 2005, in a fall that should have been prevented. Use the vests and linemans belts the 100 plus dollars don't seem like much when your flat on your back for 3 months or your not as lucky and dont make it I know it's said a 1000 times so I'll say it 1001 JUST A REMINDER COME HOME SAFE YOUR FAMILY NEEDS AND LOVES YOU!!!!! I'm by no means a big religious man but send out a few prayers for a speedy recovery

Prayers being sent. Thanks for sharing! I thought you were going to report on that TXhunter who posts here from time to time who is vehemently opposed to wearing a safety vest. Refers to his tree climbing abilities as "squirrel like."

I hate to hear about treestand falls that are the result of not wearing a harness. Too many preventive deaths and serious injuries every year. Wearing a harness is one of the simplest and safest things you can do while hunting from a treestand.

I was one who had never wore a safety vest before this season. That was until I took a 30ft fall back in Sept. Now, I will not get into a stand without one. If I forget it, I ground hunt or sleep in the truck. I make anybody that goes hunting with me have one, if they don't like it, they can stay at home. It really is that important, I just wish it did not take me falling 30ft to figure that out.

From what I gather his fall happened as he was leaving a stand to get onto some climbing sticks. Thats as much detail as I know he's not a real close friend but my wife is a postal worker who speaks w/ his wife when she comes in as soon as I know more I'll pass it on
