Two things in the story stick out to me, One the hunter said that he would pay to have the elk tested for CWD, but, it's at that point, it was too late to have that done. Two, he stated that the CDOW had "cleared" his elk of CWD which was impossible since no tests had been done for CWD.

With that said, since it's not been found that an animal that HAS CWD can cause harm to humans that eat the meat, and since apparently he only had the skull plate, with no brains and spinal tissue, than what's the risk ofspreading the disease?

Now that I did not know...interesting, but it sucks for the Mr. Hicks. Hopefully all works out in the end for him.

I had no idea of that law in those states. That would really stink. Thanks for the post and the education.

Just wanted to bump this back to page one. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if one of my HNIers had this happen to him/her. Know your state's game laws boys-as well as those states in which you'll be traveling!

So if I harvest a buck in KY and bring the head home in a ice chest to have mounted in MS, I am breaking the law, or is KY a CWD state?(driving thru TN)

WOW.

Things we don't think about. Just like my trip to IL, I know ahead of time that in transport my bow has to be cased or tied so it can't be drawn. It's a stupid law, one we don't have in PA but I have to abide by it when in IL. I hope to remember each time to and from afield. I hope the outfitter reminds us all as I don't know how serious they take that.

keep in mind that if you kill in IL (assuming PA is similar to KY in the rules)...you cannot bring back any bones/brain matter...the antlers must only be a scraped clean skulll cap only, and all meat must be boned out. No quartering a deer, caping to the head, and heading home....they will confinscate your deer for that in KY.

Well get used to similar laws in WI. Theres some new laws this year in CWD zones. Not sure if they are in the manual or not, but it has something to do with if you shoot a deer in a cwd zone you have to cut it up on the spot. Im not sure how the registration process works though. Id have to find the article, I think its in the last Country Today.

Everyone understands keeping CWD under control but comon, stopping at a restaurant to eat and gas up, on the way home? pretty crappy arrest if you ask me.

Best way to stop CWD is to put an end to game farms and private game preserves.
