ORIGINAL: solocamcan ORIGINAL: 2 Lunger ORIGINAL: solocamcan ORIGINAL: mofireman Solocam: I have to commend you because the first thing that crossed my mind was "What!!! They cut the antlers off of THAT deer? Why in the **** would someone do that to a caliber of buck that is?" I would take out a bank loan if I had to in order to get a full neck mount on that buck! And you're right, so quick to get a clean European look to those antlers in the pictures. I think I smell something as well!! I've been around taxidermy as well, and this time of year they are busy, and very rarelly will they drop what there doing to do all that, cape it out, maybe, the cleaning of the antlers, I doubt it. |
RE: SCHULTZY POST THE PICS HERE (LESS PAGES)
ORIGINAL: bigcountry ORIGINAL: englum_06 The only thing I was concerned about (that hasn't been mentioned), is doesn't there have to be a tag on it for a taxi to work on it? Atleast in IL that's the case as far as I know... Not trying to start beef with you, just an honest question. I can understand not tagging it before you take your pictures just so that the pictures look more lifelike and more natural, but we've always tagged ours before that carcass is moved an inch. Now clearly that rack has been moved from the woods. All of ours that have ever been mounted, nailed to boards or what not, have the tag either on the back of the plaque orbehind themount somewhere. If his buddies found it, most likely they didn't tag it for him UNLESS they were carrying his tags around, which in that case (in IL) that's illegal as well as far as I know. |

And I'm not saying he poached it or anything, Im just saying I could understand why it would look/seem kind of strange to most people.

Like I said, the tag is either on the back of the board that they are on, or the tag is behind the mount stapled to it. The tag is on the antlers until the rack is put onto the board or whatever, and then we put it on the back of the board, plaque, or whatever display it is. For example, we have a piece of oak that I just recently made and put three racks on. The tags were on the racks but once I mounted the racks to the board, I peeled the tags off of the antler and stapled them to the back of the board. If you flip this board over onto the backside, the three tags are stapled onto it behind each individual rack. |

ORIGINAL: bigcountry Well, I have hunted probably 10 different states and all are different. He looks to be in his own house with his own property. He clearly stated the cape is gone.He clearly is not in the field unless he hunts in his uniform. How many of your racks on the wall have a tag hanging from them? I don't know if his buddies taged it or not. Thats not my business. |

I remember when last year, a guy killed a record non-typical MD deer. First thing I saw, was 5 people saying it was poached. They all lived 3 hours from the guy, but hey, they know a buddy, who was a buddy of his sisters cousin who knows the guy spotlighted it. Thats a bunch of crap. |

The only thing I found odd was that there was no tag on it. If his buddies found it in the woods, does that mean they took it to him and he put his tag on it? Not likely. Does it mean he gave them his tags to carry around in case they found it? Not likely. It doesn't really matter to me one way or another, I'm just saying I can understand why some may question it. |
