wind directions

i for the life of me cant find a good site to tell me what the days wind directions are going to be accuratley anyway -

accuweather said north wind for yesterday and it was more of a south wind - the area i went to is better with a north to north west wind --

so question is . is there a specific site that you can check for your areas wind directions thats reliable ?

I use weatherbug, it is free and seems to always be acurate for me. Just google it!

I use weather.com, and plug in my city zip code then hit "details" and check the wind direction from there. One thing to keep in mind, from my stand locations I have noticed the wind can be in a completely different direction depending on the surrounding landscape contour. Just this past week, the wind was out of the southwest in general, but from my stand location it was out of the North sometimes! I hunt in a ravine with a small incline on the west side of my stand. I'm sure the wind was coming over the incline and creating a small whirlpool of air that from my location was moving out of the north.

I use weather.com also. But I never fully depend on it. I'll stop about 1/2 from my hunting area, get out of my truck and spray some talc or throw dust in the air. That'll tell ya which way the wind is blowing.

bigscott, get you one of those "windtracker" devices to hang on your clothes. Pull out a very small amount, about the size of a dime and let it go. Do this several times while on stand. You will be amazed at what the wind currents are doing. It has really helped me learn the fickle winds.

We used them in the Military, as well as our Military air traffic weather reports. Extremely accurate.

Last night, Weather.com called for a NorthWest wind, when we got to the farm(keep in mind, many fields- not much structure- wind we experience is the direction its coming) it was SOUTHWEST ! I should have checked NOAA....
Wow! I believe that is what I am going to start using. That is very accurate and detailed.
