Shot this buck. Whats wrong?

Ok heres the story. I was in my deerstand on some river bottom in 2006, it was a cold morning and snowing pretty heavy, Rut was just getting going real heavy i had just went through a rattleing sequence and heard some noise in the brush ahead of me i look up to see this very odd deer coming in at about 50 yrds. He stood out there for what seemed like forever so i grunted at him very soft, he came right in and i shot him at 10 yrds with a very east recovery. I knew somthing wasnt right with the deer but didnt know exactly what i had shot, when i got to him i was very pumped he was a 8x3 with a few kickers and a very goofy left main beam. I attached some pics. Why do you think his antlers grew goofy like this?

Previous injury is my first guess.

Possibly an injury earlier in life?

He was limping on his right rear leg.

Sounds correct if the buck was limping on his right side it would have affected his opposite side antler. idk how this works but if a deer is hurt on one side his antler on the opposite side will be messed up. I have seen this several times.

Typically, if a deer gets an injury on it's body, the antler opposite of that side of the body will have some sort of abnormality. It looks to me that is the case here. Deer can also injur their antlers during the velvet growing period, but this one looks like the limp stated is the reason for this. Nice deer, lots of character.

I kind of figured it had something to do with that hip. Good to know. Im very proud of this deer because he has one of the coolest racks in my trophy room.
