Pretty cool, was she in a public or private land area?

Youd think after year 13 or 14 she'd have learned to stay bedded until dark falls [:-]. If the information is correct, that is simply awesome.

LOL!

That is pretty amazing actually. I'd have to say thats a one in a million harvest right there, most deer don't live to 1/3 her age in the wild. Heck I bet most deer don't live to 2/3 her age in a pen!

I can believe It. I've mentioned It before on here that up at my dads place In northern Mn they feed the deer a little corn through out the winter months and he's had the same doe coming In for 17 years straight, she has no tail and that's how he knows It's her without a doubt. She was a bigger deer when she 1st started coming In to there yard 17 years ago, she's obviously older then that.

I don't. There are exceptions to the rule for everything. Unless we have some reason to believe otherwise, I doubt it was fabricated.

RE: 17 year old doe.

At a camp I visit in Michigan, they have a doe that they have been seeing at Photographing for years, 15 to be exact. It has a very unique problem with one of its ears and easily identifiable. I didn't believe it, but they have pictures to prove it every year or two. Before I saw this firsthand I would have called BS, but now I believe it.

I hope they are turning that whole deer into Burger or Jerkey, she is going to be tough as leather!!

After doing some more research on this, I beleive this is plausable. Here is a link with more pics and a story.

Trust me there Bowtech, It's very possible. I've seen a 17+ year old doe myself.

That's more like it. Actual links and press rather than just a pic and generic post. Thanks 360.

RE: 17 year old doe.

From Deer and Deer hunting magazine ( if anyone can find it on line) Dec. issue, the oldest recorded doe ever shot was 22 years old. And the oldest collared buck in captivity was 20 years 10 months. The title of the article is 25 things you probably didn't know about deer. So I can believe this about the 17 year old.

RE: 17 year old doe.

I read the D&DH article too.
I agree - plausible.

Especially with a collar on that big and easily seen by all hunters.

I am not sure that many hunters would want to shoot a collared doe.
Some would question, is it legal?
Some would question, is it ethical?
Some would question, did they do testing on it therefore would the meat be tainted?
Some would question, what will I be getting myself into if I shoot this deer?
Will I have to notify anyone?
What questions will they ask of me?
Will this draw any attention to my honey-hole?

- maybe I am wrong.

I wouldn't shoot it if it was on my property.

If it stayed only on my property, it would live as long as God was willing.

If true (i'm not calling anyone a liar, but there are always crazy rumors out there) this is pretty amazing. I wonder if she was still producing fawns after all these years?

RE: 17 year old doe.

could have been an old collar. manufactuers etch a date of sale into collars for warrenty purposes. Could be the date of sale rather than the date installed. If that is infact a Wildlife brand tracking collar, then it could very well still be used today. They make good collars. The only skepticism I have is how well the collar itsself help up after 17 years and there arent any wear marks on her neck, and if the collar stayed in the same place, it didnt choke her. I'm not discrediting the story. I dont discount anything this day in age, just some things to think about.
