Is is possible it was liver hit. Sounds like he never stopped bleeding and got pushed.

Grid search for him after waiting a good while. He's probably dead.

I was thinking the same thing. I had a doe do the same thing. She was shooting blood like a hose and still managed to go 150 yards. I knicked the lung and took out the liver. I still cannot to this day believe she went that far.
