HuntingNet.com Forums - I hate the wind

So far I have been out about 8 times and still have yet to get a deer. Tonight was my first shot. and I am a human and I make mistakes, and I am short an arrow because of it, and I made a stupid shot. But no animal was wounded just so every body knows.

today about 4pm I went out and set my ground blind at the end of a rub line and deer trail where the deer come out to eat acorns by an aphalpha field. I got it set up but I did not sit in it because I knew that I had left too much scent in the area and that I needed to let it cool down a little bit, So after I staked it down real good and put some mock scrape on a scrape thats at the head of another deer trail which I will be putting my climbing treestand on when it comes in the mail, I left.

I headed up to another spot that is on my property a little 2 acre patch of pines and scrub with a pond at the center of it and cattle pastures all around it. and so i took the long way around going up the hill and i saw the tail of a deer in the thinest part on the west side just with in the fence to keep the cattle out. Then I saw a second deer which was a button buck. I was way too far out of range still and so I tried to make it a little closer but the button buck jumped the fence and was about 50 yards out. then i realise the doe is looking right at me as usually happens and shes about 40 yards away but the fence is between her and me and I was a fraid to shoot threw the fense for fear of messing up. So the she takes off when the wind changes on me and jumps the fense So I do one of the most stupid things i have ever done in my hunting life. I try and make a running 70yard shoot when I only have a 40yard pin as my highest range. before I let go shes way out there and she looks closer because shes big and she stops and i let the arrow go and it hits the ground way short of anything and smooks another set of deer that was feeding near the corn and the all take off over another hill threw the horse pasture and into the timber that I had just left when I was setting up my blind. I was pissed off at myself for loosing an arrow and taking such an unethical shot and letting myself get too excited and not going an even longer way around when i first started to stalk them. But my stalking is getting better but when its still half warm the wind will hit that sweat and just ruin the stalk. I'm stupid... So please keep feedback on this thread positive because I know how bad I screwed up. but at least I am getting my stupidmistakes out before the rut hits full force.
