Pass through IBO question
I took my daughter (10yrs) with me into the stand yesterday and we saw some deer. Those were her first in the wild and she is very excited to get out there again Needless to say, I am very excited as well....:D
Earlier this year I bout her a Diamond "The Edge" 30 to 40 and it is currently set to 30#s. I was looking and Alabama law says you have to pull at least 35# for deer, so we are working on it:D. That got me to thinking though....with 35#'s of pull what are the odds of pass thru with rib(s) or a shoulder involved? To me, 35# just seemed a little low for deer hunting I guess. Opinions? |
RE: Pass through IBO question
Use a quality 2 blade COC like a Magnus stinger and she should be fine. Ribs/ribcage will probably be a pass thru, or at least punch thru the opposite side of the chest. Shoulder…probably little to no chance of a pass thru. You’ll probably want to keep her arrow on the heavier side too.

RE: Pass through IBO question
rybo gave you a good answer. Play with complete arrow weight, in order to maximize Kinetic energy without sacrificing to much speed. Rib cage you may get a pass through, if you are set on a pass through remember to use a smaller diameter fixed blade, for less chance of catching bone. Any shoulder bone involved you will not have a pass through. Even pulling 70lbs guys dont always pass through the shoulder blade. Good luck, it is awesome to see a father teaching his daughter, or child archery and getting them involved in hunting. It teaches worlds of responsibilty and respect. Kudos to you and kudos to your daughter for enjoying it.
