Reading the signs
alright I have a stupid question but anybody who has been keeping up with my questions, will know that I am coming to yall for help.
I know rubs are no guarantee on buck size. but. If there is a rub on a tree where the tree is 4 to 5 inches in diameter does it sound like there is a trophy buck in the area? |
RE: Reading the signs
It could mean that or it could meen you have a very dominant fork horn..theres no guarentee when it comes to rubs, but find a good rub line, setup about 15-20 yards off it and you should see whats making them.

RE: Reading the signs
Odds are probably yes, nothing is a guarantee, but I'd rather see rubs on trees 4-5" than 1/2"-1".
I've seen big bucks make small rubs, but I rarely see small bucks make big rubs. |
RE: Reading the signs
I agree that its probably a better sized animal that is rubbing those trees. If you look closely at the rub, you may be able to make out a number of individual tines which will give you a better idea of the caliber animal you are looking at. I have also found that the higherup the tree off the ground the rub is, the larger the buck.
