Update on "I ran my bow over with the truck"

Well I had to replace the cable guard, rest, quiver, sight, and string suppresser, but the bow was back up within a week. I had the cable guard laying around and put an STS string suppresser on instead of the stock Hoyt one. Yesterday was the first chance I got to hunt with the bow after the repairs. I shot a nice doe, 30 yard shot. The hit was a little high and a little back, but still double lung. She ran 150 yards total and no kidding, fell
20' from the truck. It took me an well over an hour to find her though. The blood trail was very sparse and I am not the worlds best at finding blood to begin with. I was begining to have my doubts about the hit but persistance pays off. I also managed to get her back to the house without running anything over I guess it was a good lesson (but costly) and one I won't soon forget.[/align]__________________

Good update Chris and congratulations on the doe.

Persistence does pay off. That's the kind of deer to hit, the uphill running, back to the truck models. My friends seem to shoot the downhill running, away from the truck uphill dragging models. [8D]

Maybe you could send pics. and a story of running over the bow to the company along with the needed repairs, might make an interesting testimonial.

I had a deer run 125 yards after a double lung hit; I do not like long or skimpyblood trails given a well placed shot.

What broadhead did you use?

Thats what I want to know. What does the man who has shot, tested and has access to just bout every broadhead ever made and marketed shoot on a daily basis?

Congrats on the slickhead 5shot....sounds like you got off cheap, all things considered. I'm assuming you have a new set of rules to follow when bowhunting...

Rule #1 ... Aim for the exit hole

Rule #2 ... Tailgate Up!

Rob I am with you, never had one run that close to the truck! Bj, don't worry I wouldn't pick you up anyway, your way to ugly to be seen in my truck, especialy with one as handsome as myself! The head I was shooting the NAP Hellrazor, but don't blame the sparse blood trail on the head, blame it on the shot. The first deer I shot with them this year had and excellent blood trail, high entrance low exit. This one had a slightly high entrance anda mid body exit. I normaly shoot a lot of different heads and the hellrazors worked well. Last year I shot snuffer ss's and steel heads. For the remainder of this year I will be shooting Zwickey "no merceys" I just finished tuing and setting them up this afternoon. Hopefully I can get some good results with them as well. I will see what I can do about getting a pic up. I took a few quick ones before I got her in the cooler.

You should park your truck closer to your stand, that way you won't have as far to bloodtrail.
