How's your season going?

My harvest numbers are down from the last two seasons.....and I'm JUST fine with that. I know I had more down at this point in '06....and I had 7 down to this point, last year. Also....my sightings are down....which is also a good thing. ONLY thing I'd like to just SEE is a few more bucks. I've already had more (individual bucks) sightings of them than I had all last year, too....in about half the sits.

Still......I've had a GREAT season, so far.

How's it going for you guys....in general?

pretty much the same as yours Jeff, accept the weather has kept me out of the woods this yr.. it's just too darn hot...

RE: How's your season going?

Other than the heat....It's been a good season so far. I've seen 2 racked bucks, which is the earliest in the season I've ever seen one. I've had deer closer to me than I've ever had (5 feet at one point), I've deer under my stand for long periods of time.....My scent control is working beautifully....I'm refining my entry/exit routes....And I've had legitimate shots at 15 deer so far. Not bad for only hunting weekends.

The weather is much cooler, leaves are turning colors, flood waters have receded......It gets nothing but better from here out.

RE: How's your season going?

mine is going good too.

Igot a glimpse of a really nice buck. My sightings are way up. I've taken 2 does which is all i want at this point (I might try for another after the rut). I've seen deer 13 of the 21 times I've hunted (that's awesome for me). And, I've passed on two smaller bucks. I can't complain!!!

Last year at this time I had found out I was having 2 surgeries in december, missed 2.5 weeks in october for preparation stuff for the surgeries, and I found out that I couldn't hunt most of the rut because of work. So, I'm happy!!!

RE: How's your season going?

Best season Ive ever had so far.;)Ive had close to around 30 sightings, Though Im sure some are the same group of deer, Ive also spotted one monster while recovering my first doe. But only 2 confirmed buck sightings in totalso far.

I harvested 2 does in my first week of hunting. Didnt hunt nearly as hard this week, but next week is looking good as the temps start to drop.

RE: How's your season going?

Not bad so far, got permission on a new property that I had never set foot on until opening day. So far, so good. I've seen deer, had some shot opps that I passed on, and saw one good buck to this point. I'm looking forward to the leaves coming down some, thick as hell on this piece of ground. Totally new terrain for me, big ravines, lots of funneling terrain features, which is nice to have. So, hopefully I can get something done in the buck department!

About normal. Haven't started shooting any doe yet, as I am still hunting areas for the 1st time and hoping to catch a mature buck "off his game" before the pressure of gun season starts in a few weeks.

Lots of doe/fawns and 1.5 yo bucks, several 2.5 yo bucks but only one 3.5+yo.I think he is a solid 135"-140"- 10 point. I have seen him twice entering a milo fielda good 30 minutes before dark, but both times he has been over 125 yards out.

RE: How's your season going?

My season has been a good one for only going out twice so far. My 1st sit I saw 10 deer, 6 of which I could o shot- doe and 2 fawns and 3 smaller bucks. Last evening was my best sit. I passed on a decent buck- http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=3108116. I forgot to mention I also had 2 doe's In range as well. It was an all together productive hunt!

RE: How's your season going?

Decent. My sightings are up even from last year (which were WAY up from the previous years). I'm doing more right, but it's also because the herd is getting bigger. I don't think it's to the point that our land is above or at it's carrying capacity, but I would like to see a few doe taken out. I'm working on that myself. Passed on a smallish 6 this season which is earlier than I saw a buck last year. I would have to check my journal, but I think I'm at about 45-50 sightings in 13 sits so far. I also have a flock of turkeys pegged, so as long as they continue on their pattern, I will have a legitimate shot come fall season.

RE: How's your season going?

This is my first year BOW hunting, so I can't compare to previous years. I have only beenout 4 times so far, and have been skunked 3 of the 4. The last time I was out I was 3 deer steps away from having my first shot opportunity. Had a doe at 12-15 yards behind some limbs and leaves, heading for an open shot and I think she caught me drawing my bow. Made 3 or4 stomps, a loud blow, and she was gone. Pretty exciting though. I will learn from the experience.

RE: How's your season going?

Rollercoaster ride so far. Saw nothing opening morning on the same old over pressured piece I hunted last year. Left the woods a finally got permission to hunt some property right out my back door. Headed out that afternoon super excited only to find very little sign of anything, just a big let down. Put a stand out and huntedit a few days later and wound up seeing 3 different small bucks and a doe that I passed on, excited all over again. I've been back out twice since and haven't seen a thing, let down again.
That about sounds like hunting doesn't it. Anyway I own a few acres up state in Sullivan County PAthat I haven't been able to hunt yet this season, Saturday shouldbring some excitement.

I'm seeing lots of deer coming to my food plots in the evenings, including 1 huge 10 point right at dark.

Still trying to figure out where the are in the mornings. Sightings have been slim.

RE: How's your season going?

Hey Jeff, I have actually had a pretty nice season so far. Only one doe harvested (The lack of a freezer is the reason as I have had many opportunities to take shots at deer but have not) but surprisingly I have seen 6 different bucks in the small 33 acre plot I am hunting (1 big one, a younger injured buck w/ crazy rack (got him on video), a young 8, and 3 small bucks-a spike, 3 point and 5 point.). I am strictly buck hunting from now until mid november.

RE: How's your season going?

Decent.I don't usually have a taxidermy bill this early in the year. Some of you may remember the piebald that I posted pics of. I've yet to see him from the stand. I've had some of his running mates all around me, but not him. I'm pretty sure he got pressured off the land and I don't have permission (can't get permission) from the adjacent land owners. I've had several small bucks all around but deer sightings as a whole are down. I had a basket 6 come in last night and a fawn. Looking to take a doe as I've got people wanting meat, now if I could only see a doe.

RE: How's your season going?

Kind of a mixed season so far for me. Kills are down from last year, but my buck sightings are WAY up. My misses are also WAY up from this point last year! So far I've missed and nice 8 with a droptine the first morning, and a good sized 4x4 Sika deer! But I did manage to kill my first Sika this year, so overall it's been a great season. Just got to whack a couple nanny's now!

My year has been awesome. Shot a P&Y second day of the season this year (first ever) took a doe in early season, have seen tons of deer and still have 5 doe tags left to fill. Headed out Monday to take one or two. Hunted up in NY for the first time last weekend on our new property in the Adirondacks, was awesome.

Havent seen many deer yet. Taken a doe and seen a few small bucks, but that is it. If I were hog hunting, I could have shot a butt loadof them. Im seeing hogs everywhere. Last weekend I started seeing rubs, so it wont be long till the big boys start makeing the rounds.

RE: How's your season going?

Not bad. Overall sightings aren't great but I have killed a couple of does and seen a few good bucks. I had a 135-140" ten point under me in Missouri a few weeksback that I never got a shot on. I had a 115-120 eight point come by me out of range the first day of Arkansas season. I have seen a couple of more bucks that will go in the 130's alreadyas well. So this season is ahead of the curve for seeing good deer butnot setting the world on fire for total number of deer seen off stand.

RE: How's your season going?

Well, this time last year I had 2 or 3 does on the ground. I haven't even drawn my bow back so far this year. When does were in range, they weren't in season (1st 2 weeks). Now, nothing is cooperating.

Being in nature is great....but I'm ready to shoot a damn deer!

I have seen a ton more deer this year than last, and have already harvested a doe. Most of the sitings were from one location, but have seen deer while not hunting in others, just need to move a few stands. Only 1 buck siting so far. Not to bad as of yet.

WV opens tomorrow.
VA has been open a couple weeks, butI haven't even had time to go yet [&:]This has been my worst year EVER in that regard. WAAAYYY too busy.

I'm at the point in my life where kids occupy about 90% of my time - (which is great, not complaining :)). Between football practice and games, travel baseball, and soccer - I am a full time chauffer for my 2 kids. Oh yeah, throw in work, church, and trying to keep up around the house....I begin to wonder if I'll ever have time to hunt.

I'm not too concerned though, things don't usually get good till the last week of Oct, first week of Nov anyhow. Looking forward to getting out though....its killing me hearing some of your storys and seeing the pics & video's.

My best season so far. I haven't kept track of all of my sits but ive seen a bunch of does, not sure exaclty how many, and ive had 4 buck sightings.

I have only been in the tree 3 times but thats normal for me until the third week of OCT. My last three sits have been in my truck with Binoculars. I have seen some really nice bucks. I am hoping for a north wind this weekend so I can implement my plan of attack. No matter the wind I will be hunting this weekend and beyond until I get a buck. (or not)

My season is going very well, even though I have only gotten to sit 6 times. I have seen 29 deer, I believe, and taken 2 does.

I am focusing on taking a buck now.

I would say mine is going pretty damn good. I killed a bull elk and a mule deer in Idaho. And I killed my first whitetail here in Michigan. My freezer is doing pretty good:)

7 sits so far...seen 6 deer, 3 bucks and 3 does. Saw a 4-6 pointer( couldn't tell if he had browtines) today at 3 pm. I've seen as many bucks in 2 weeks this year as I did all of last year. That being said, they have all been small ( spike, 5 pointer, and whatever I saw today). Considering I saw less than 20 deer all of last year, this year has been going just fine.

RE: How's your season going?

All-in-all really well. I started the bowhunting addiction last season, but wasn't able to score on anything. This year I got my first (a doe) opening day and then a week later got another (4-pt). I kind of wish I hadn't shot the 4 pt. Although, I figure it works since I've gotten one to account for the shut-out last season and one for this year (so far).;)Plus, the eats are/will be excellent. At any rate, I'm officially hooked.

As for sightings and such, it's been exclusively does except for the afforementioned buck. I've been out five times and seen six deer. I'm not counting deer that I've seen on multiple occasions. Not bad, not great. I'd really like to see something with horns for a change, though. Hopefully things will pick up soon.

Best of luck to everyone. Stay safe.
