It's not always about the kill...some photos.

Well I went out tonight for my 12th sit of the season in hopes of whacking a doe. It didn't pan out tonight, although I had 5 of them feeding their way toward me in the clover plot, but they were spooked out by a flock of turkeys (which is odd, I didn't think they were too spooked by them). Anyways, I didn't manage a kill, but I took my "new" 30D out with me tonight to grab some photos. I thought I would share a few with you.

Part of property looking back from the road on the way to my stand.

View looking southeast from the stand. This is our clover/rye plot. That inside row you see at the bottom was redisced and planted in winter wheat, peas, and brassicas around August, but it didn't take too well. The clover and rye is doing very well, though.

Playing with DOF a little.

The 101st waiting on it's first kill. Thanks Tfox for the watch idea:D

Yours truly...

Slick Trick ready to go.

Overall, it was a great night, and it's been a great season so far even with no deer taken, yet.

I'd say I'll have yet ANOTHER camera headed my way, around May. I'm diving in for an SLR. I've been playing around a LOT with the one my buddy just got (Canon Rebel XLS I believe) and some filters. I like it. I'm trying to decide what I want though, I'm wanting to get something GOOD. Not like my dad's Nikon D3 ;).

I'll also be purchasing a telophoto lense to go along with it ;)

I have a 10x Optical zoom Kodak right now, and I'll keep that camera, too, because it's great. I just want something extra. I take more pictures than you'd ever believe. [8D]

Thanks, guys. I almost enjoy taking pictures on stand as much as I do hunting...almost;)

Matt/TN, the DSLR market is a pretty flooded one at this point, and will continue to be with a lot of "new" up and comers. Sony, Olympus, Pentax, etc all offering distinct new features. However, I would really recommend to stay with Nikon or Canon if you see yourself getting into it simply because the lens selection and quality. You will hear arguments between Nikon and Canon on which is better, but in reality, in the right hands, they're just as good as each other, and in reality they both make VERY nice glass which is what makes the biggest difference, not the body. I would recommend going to a camera shop, and play the different models. Get a feel for how it sits in your hand. See how all of the functions and controls work. Look at the button layout. Is it comfortable? Cameras needed fitted to the person just like bows. Good luck with it!

Purty pics man!;)

A buddy of mine just got a new camera ( I forget which kind) and got me thinking about getting one as well. The only thing that turns me off is that some of the lenses cost more than a new bow![:-]

Great pics MGH! I took my camera out the only time I've been out this year and also took a few pics, never done that before myself.

Good quality pics!!

those are absolutely fantastic pictures. it's pictures like those that made me buy a nikon d40x earlier this year. unbelievable camera. the pictures are amazing. so much better then any non-slr we've owned. i also bought a big lens, that lens is great for scouting. I don't even use my spotting scope anymore.

again, great pictures. reminds me of the woods last weekend and I forgot my camera. dangit!

Hey, is that the spot you posted about last week ? You had a topo map of it with some purple dots on it........it looks like it to me :D.

Nice pics, you'll put one on the ground there once the bucks start getting rowdy.

It's close. It's actually just southeast of the top yellow dot near the food plot. The deer entered near that yellow dot where I moved my stand from...of course[&:]

Never fails ain't it ? Leave 'em alone for a few days, then sneak into the first spot with a climber and nail one.

Great pics. I haven't taken my camera out yet this year, but I may tonight. What size lens do you use on stand?

Thanks. 28-135mm. I'm looking to switch to a faster/wider lens though. Possibly a 17-50mm 2.8 Tamron or a Sigma 18-50 F2.8. I would like to add in a 70-300mm IS as well for the wildlife. The 28-135 is decent, but it's not fast enough for the low light shots in the field without a tripod.

Just a nice convenient place to keep it to track time in the stand. I was always fumbling with my sleeves to check the time, and this way I don't even have to move to check the time...it's always staring me in the face:D Tfox posted something similar to this a while back.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I will try to get possibly tomorrow or this weekend. I don't bring the camera to every sit, because some require me trekking back into some thick areas.
