BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
So just wondering who does what. Are you a die hard bowhunter who only hunts with archery tackle. Are you a guy who hunts with a bow and also a gun. or are you a guy who is aa bowhunter 99% of the time, but when the season is running close to the end and you have a tag left out the gun comes.

RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
When it comes to deer hunting, I am pretty much bow only.
There are occasions when I'll go on a man drive or dog drive hunt with the shotgun along with my buddies just to be social and have fun, but when it comes to stand hunting... I'll always take the bow over anything else. Ducks, turkeys and small game however, they do get the blast treatment! |

I shotgun hunt during Illinois 2 seasons. They do not allow us to carry a bow (stupid law IMO), so if you want to deer hunt during those days then you have to cary a gun.
The action gets pretty good during this time, but in my area you almost have to focus more on where the deer will run when spooked instead of where they naturally move. Probably overhalf of my shotgun bucks were within in bow range. |
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I hunt bow and rifle. I'm bow through black powder season, then some friends and I do a two week camp where we rifle hunt. For the last part of the season I'll alternate depending on who I'm going with and what they want to do.

RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
In Ky. we can bow hunt during gun season, so I bow hunt only.
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I do both bow and muzzleloader. Got into muzzleloading because of my dad. Now I have a son and daughter who are both getting into hunting and want to go gun hunting with dad.
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
Bow and rifle here. We can't bow hunt thru rifle season so if I didn't rifle hunt also I'd have to sit at home for 9 days. I'd go insane.
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
i both bow hunt and muzzleloader... i muzzleoad to avoid the crowds that head into the woods on the regular deer season.
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
In the past Ive done it all. But this year Im not using a ML and if my blessings continue with a bow, the Rifle may stay in the cabinet also.
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I bow, rifle and muzzleloader hunt. I just like to be out there it doesnt really matter to me what weapon I am using as long as I can get out there Im happy.

RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT

RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
im with GR8.......
bow season i bowhunt... rifle season i typically rifle hunt, though ive carried the flintlock, might take the slug gun if i get it scoped this season, one day, i may even take the bow...one day i'll get me a revolver too... flintlock/late archery, i take the flintlock.... many reasons....stand hunting PERIOD in my area after about 10am opening morning is about a lost cause unless you get deer pushed past your stand....just super heavy pressure...could hunt a funnel and probably see deer...but they are going to be skittish and alert...so i leave the bow at home...usually we gather a crew and do some small drives...same with flintlock season...less pressure, but deer were hammered for a 6 week bowseason, small game, fall turkey, 2 week rifle season etc....possible for late season archery hunting, but ive taken the flintlock stand hunting numerous times in the late season and never seen a deer...we gather a crew and drive that season as well most of the time... i enjoy it all...rifle hunting is loosing its spark with me, though i still love gathering with the crew and putting on some good ole drives....thats why im itchin to scope the slug gun...just a change of pace....ive eaten more tags than ive filled....but like to atleast kinda stay with the program...and enjoy it all... |
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
Ya I do bowhunt most of the time. But when gun season rolls around I don't stay home.. I love to hunt so I head to the woods with a pistol usually.. Sometimes a slug gun...

RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
bow only for last 8 years, rifled two deer same day in 60mph wind and probably 5-6 inches of rain that day , next day had running water in my scope dug bow out again. before that had probably been 10 years except one day with shotgun for geese.
hunt ducks and geese with bow every year with bow. heading out tomorrowAM for Mtn. Goat hunt with my bow. |
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
Bow, Muzzleloader, and gun which ever is in season
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
As a "BOWHUNTER", I hunt with a bow the entire deer season. If it weren't for the "Bow" part....I wouldn't be a deer hunter.
Substitute "gun" for "bow" in the above....and tell me that is your preference and I'll tell you "kudos". It's simply a personal choice. |
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
Alot more satisfaction getting it done with a bow. But during the shotgun seasons I will be out there just the same...
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I do it all
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I choose to give up the gun because essentially I have. The only places I really have to gun hunt in Western PA are invaded by the masses on opening day and it's just not fun anymore. I spent all morning in a stand and had a road hunter tell me I shot her buck out from her. Funny thing is, she would have had to shoot past me to get it. Just really got to me. Haven't gun hunted since.

RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I prefer to bow hunt, and do alot. I dorifle hunt and m/l hunt as well, but often take my bow out during those seasons too. It really depends on my mood and the situation of my hunt. Now that I am spending more time hunting with my kids, when we go its been with the gun. If I am solo, 80% of the time its with the bow.
Clear as mud, right? [8D] |
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I do bow and black powder and a combination of either during rifle season.
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
My first choice is to bow hunt, but won't hesitate in rifle season if I have tags left.
|
RE: BOW HUNT ONLY/ BOTH BOW AND GUN HUNT
I enjoy bowhunting the most, but I still have fun gun hunting. They taste the same no matter what they were shot with.
