RE: Sika deer success!
Looks like aexcursion into a deep dark swamp. As much as I like my whitetails and local stands I sure want an adventure or two and thoughAlaska and Africa are out of my budget until the kids get out of college that looks like a hunt I could pull off.
Don't those things bugle like a sickly elk?? Neat chocolate color to your trophy and it looks like an easy drag..
Major Atta Boy at you!!

As a Maryland native I can tell you hunting these little swamp elk are not easy and can be very challenging. For you guys to go out and score first time out is fantastic!! Congrats to you guys. 4 guys I know, some of which live around these little critters year round, were skunked last Saturday, so you guy did real good.

Thanks guys. It was quite the adventure, and we know we got extremely lucky.
Planter,
They do bugle, it is kind of like 3-4 short elk bugles strung together from what we were hearing. And the hinds mewed just like a cow elk. It is a very affordable hunt if your looking for a change of pace. For a non-resident your looking at $135 for hunting liscense and $25 for your bow stamp.
Diesel,
We were VERY lucky in that the first island we scouted was loaded with sign but it was tough to get to even with a canoe. It took us 3 days of hunting hard and a lot of paddling, but it was a great learning experience for us, and we're already planning to head over there again next year.
GH,
You show up here, and I'll do everything I can to get you on one. You just have to do your part and actually HIT them. They're smaller than whitetails, so you better practice a lot this year, and watch your limbs!

Pretty neat, that sounds like fun. Congrats.
So….let me get this straight. Maryland, the state that borders me to the south, has a bunch of these little deer roaming around that looks like a tons of fun to hunt and I haven’t ever even heard of this? I gotta do some research.
