2' in diameter or Circumference? 2' in diameter is a pretty nice size tree. i wouldnt really worry about it toppling over
A tree that was 2' in circumference would only be about 9" in diameter! I don't think there's anyone out there that would hook up a ladder stand to a tree that small in diameter.

haha thats why i asked. Its possible that you are in an area of wetlands, this could cause the tree to have very shallow roots.

I'm thinking of planting a cement pole about 8' in the ground and hooking the stand up to that!:D

WOW! Glad you're okay. Never heard of that actually happening before. However, I have found my myself thinking of an exit strategy on some windy days before....not a comforting feeling at all!

Sounds like a fun night on stand you won't soon be able to repeat!!!! Good to hear all ended well. When I cut trees in GA, when you top out a 60-70' GA pine, the tree makes a heck of a wobble, and all you can do is hang on for a little bit, then once it settles, get back to work!!! Kinda scary, but being strapped to the tree made it FUN too!!! :D

Gotta love being in a climb on a coldday.....40ft up in a climber (mature loblolly pines, maxing out a 30' gun rope, pulling it up, and climbing on up some more) over looking a cutover, right after lunch, fully belly, sun hits you, gentle breeze starts swaying the tree a little, of course it's magnified that high up.....rocks ya right to sleep!

Now that the wife has gone to work, time to get out there and clean it up. If she knew what happened yesterday, my days hunting would be over. She's normally off on Tuesday, but the boss called and needed her to come in! Phew! sidestepped a bullet on that one!
