There aint no way I would ever consider not wearing a harness. Especially after trying out my new climber and having the seated end slip on me and losing my balance very easily I would have fallen. Why would you ever want to take that chance of becoming paralyzed or dead? Just hunt from a ground blind if you have to until you can get a safety harness.

God bless you all

Steve no one needs to wipe my butt, although you probably want to...
They will if you falland are paralyzed.
And in spite of your desires and wishes, it's not a line I will be in - so good luck.:D

Sincerely - I hope you family never gets thecall they need to rush to the hospital or walk slowly to the morgue.
A call no one should get.

You won't catch me without a HSS. My vest goes on when I put all my other clothes on so I don't run the risk of leaving in it in the pickup and it get attached to the tree as soon as I can get in the stand. Now I need to get a linemans belt for climbing....I'm not exactly scared of heights, but I am uncomfortable enough with them that there is NO way I will be in a tree without a harness.

A friend of mine fell from a few feet up, while climbing. He wasn't hurt, but the fall could've just as easily happened at 20'.

I work with a guy who was on his way home from work one evening and saw his brother in laws truck parked at his hunting spot, approx 2 hrs. after legal hours. Went in and found him laying under his tree, alive, but really busted up. This happened a few years ago, and the BIL is walking, but nowhere near 100%. HE DID NOT SLIP OUT OF THE TREE, HIS STAND BROKE.

I've had a few near-misses while hanging stands. And wearing a harnesss while hanging a stand keeps my hands free to work a little faster.

I use small, lightweight Aluminum stands. And I don't feel 100% confident in a mass-produced 10 lb. piece of thin-walled framework to provide complete safety forever.

I don't wear one 100% of the time, but it's way over 75%. I usually don't in ladderstands.

BUT, I too find it rediculous to slam a man's intelligence over not wearing one.

I don't feel comfortable in a stand unless I'm hooked up. I'm not afraid of heights, just falling. Having a harness on is like havingcarinsurance, sucks to pay for it but better have it when that accident happens...
I am the same when it comes to that. I can't hunt comfortably without having a harness on.

I have fallen while climbing. It's been said here before and I'll say it again. If that happens to you, you are going down hard and quick. Don't even think you might grab something, and God help you if you land wrong.

I try to wear a harness going up and down with a climber.

If you won't wear one for yourself, please wear one for your family and friends. I know someone doesn't like to be called selfish because they don't wear a harness, but in a way it is. Please think about those close to you and choose to wear a harness. Too many deaths every year and no one thinks it will happen to them. I don't care how long you've hunting without one, please don't take the chance. It can happen to anyone no matter how careful you are.

Good for you Shultzy! I'm glad you changed your mind.

Honestly I can't think of a single hunting buddy of mine that uses one, not one. I use an old stylestrap that justwraps around your waist and the tree. Not good, but better than nothing as long as it's adjusted where it won't break your back or cut your air off in the case of a fall. It's just so much less cumbersome than a full blown harness.

I just strap some squirells to my feet, grab one in each hand and scramble up the tree. Them things really have a grip.:D
