this may be the craziest night I've ever spent in the woods.

All I can say is wow... What a night. I was sitting in my stand, just minding my own it was about, 530 when I hear something I look behind me and theirs a flock of turkeys I'm like no freakin way this is happening right now, Cause i've never seen turkeys behind my house. EVER. So im shaking like a leaf on a tree in a tornado, I tried to take some pictures, but their all fuzzy cause I couldnt get myself under control shaking so dang bad.

So finally they dissapear in the thicket maybe 35 yards away, Im sittin chilling watching some squirrels, and their was one particular squirrel that cought my attention I was like haha This squirrel is pretty cool, he would come to the base of my tree check out my draw rope and mess with it some scamper off come back and do it again awesome, so I prolly watched him for like 35-40 mins (guessing) basically the entire time i was there, I was using him for amusment. Well anyhow prolly at 6:12 or 13 I see this bobcat creepin up at like 25 yards, Im like WHAT?!?!?!?! I've never even seen a fox up here!!! And I see he's focused on something over by the thicket, Im freakin out (this all took place over like 45 seconds) and he suddenly breaks into the quietest run through leaves i've ever heard, and I loose sight of him in the laurel quick and i see him jumping on the side of this tree, then i see my squirrel running for his life he jumped onto this sapling and the bobcat lunged from the tree and cought him in his mouth. It was byfar the craziest thing i've ever seen. He walked off with it dangling in his mouth.

To say the least my jaw was touching the ground 23' down. I diddnt even know what to think!! so as soon as i lost sight of it i called my friend rodney and was like you aint gonna believe me when i tell you this...

Anyhow, after the hunt concluded Im still shaking from seeing the bobcat and I decide i want to take a walk over to where he was, I get about 10 yards from the site of the kill and a deer takes off through the brush, its dark and my flashlight is almost dead I freaked!! I ran the oppisite direction grabbed my stand and bow and took off out of there!! hahaha Im just glad noone was there to see it! It cought me off guard real bad

This will be the coolest night I've ever spent in the woods. Ohh and for the record, I have yet to see a deer on stand lol!!! But im optimistic!

Ryan.

I've never seen anything other than little game when bowhunting, I never seen one behind my house for sure!!! and I've NEVER EVER EVER imagined they would be in my area of the woods in this little wood lot. I'm still shaking I'll tell you what.

Are you turkey hunting or deer hunting? If your turkey hunting I could see why you would be shaking. If your deer hunting, what happens if a deer walks by, you going to be able to collect your composure and pull your bow back.

I'm deer hunting, and I have no clue why I cant stop shaking sometimes I can get it under control but tonight I diddnt even bother trying, I knew I couldnt have even if I wanted to. But for whatever reason, I regain my composure as im drawing and I've never had the shakes while im at full draw. Just like every second of every minute before that when theirs deer infront of me i freak out! im like a 10 yr old i swear.

And some people think you have to kill something to have a great hunt![&:]

I'm glad you've come to that (other) realization! Good luck the rest of the season! :)

Good story - I'd love to see action like that during a deer no-show....

Cool stuff 7 point. I've yet to see a bobcat in the wild. Make sure you put in for the drawing next year. Maybe you can get out and call that bad boy in. Get him mounted with a squirrel in his mouth.

What a cool night, this is another reason bowhunting is so cool, you are sitting quiet and see things that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Perhaps you should read all the thread stab.....then you can be more informed. I'd also like to point out to you that this "kid" as you put is an 18 year old adult, but I have to wonder if you are. If your idea to put his post in the youth forum was to show that even veteran hunters can get excited about what happens while on a hunt then you should have stated it as such instead of the manner that youdid. I thought his story was quite enjoyable to read and it's ones like his that reminds many of us not to always take things so seriously while in the woods. It's always nice to get a story from someone seeing things for the very first time in the woods....it's just refreshing. I'm going to leave it at that as I don't care to sit here and argue back and forth with you as life is just too short.

Great night in the woods and a great story!!:D. I've been hunting almost 40 years and had the good fortune to see a Lynx in Canada do the same thing. You can probably count this as a once in a lifetime experience. Enjoy!

Ignore the crap that Stabnslab started. He's apparently the one who belongs in the kids forum. His original post and his follow up postssound like ajuvenile with an attitude problem.

Anyways........

Sounds like a good time in the stand. I had a bobcat take a little nap in front of my stand last Friday evening. It was pretty cool.

I personally think it would be a once in a lifetime event to see a bobcat catch a squirrel. you need to bring a video camera with you when you head back to your spot.

I saw a bobcat last year while bowhunting, although i didnt get the shakes he got a little scared as i sent an arrow just under his chest. Man i thought i had it dead to rights, it looked like the arrow went right through him. I thinkhe jumped the string a little.... yeah that what happpened:Dcool thing is i know i didnt wound it as it bolted 30yds then stopped to look back like "what the hell was that" then it just walked away.....

Very cool experience, and i was kind of glad i didnt kill him, full mounts are very expensive....

Okay guys, ya'll hijacked this thread long enough.;)

my7, I've seen 2 bobcats in almost 30 years of bowhunting, that was an awesome night.

I've killed enough turkeys in my life but I still get excited every time I see them from my tree. Great evening, congratulations.

Glad to see everyone has kissed and made up! :D

7point.....what an awesome thing to see from the stand. I had a similar experience in NC last year. I was sitting there watching a bunch of doves feed in the corn when all of a sudden they all took off like a bunch of bats out of hell. I just happen to be watching this one particular dove. He got about 2 feet off the ground when a hawk flew in out of nowhere and POOOF...all I saw was feathers exploding everywhere and the hawk kept flying. I guess he was full for a while after dove meat for supper!

These types of experiences are some of the many reasons I love to hunt. Without hunting, I would never see the things in nature that I have seen. Kudos to you on a great night in the woods!

Well your getting to be a better hunter if the little critters are not being spooked by you. On the other hand your still focus challenged, your there to hunt deer and you didn't pick up the one thatwas there and you made the classic mistake of letting something else cause you to spook one off.

Deer use confusion (things that draw a predators attention away) to move. Keep your eyes on the target next time and you might have a pic to go along with the story.:D

Holy hijacked thread Batman.

My7point, that sounds like a great night in the woods to me. It's amazing that sometimes the best nights hunting are the ones where you never see a deer or take the bow off the hook. To see what you saw first hand is really cool. Think about this, there are people out there that are paid and spend countless hours to record what you saw so it can be put on TV. If you keep a journal of your hunts record that night in great detail because it will be one you come back to over and over. If you don't keep a journal, start one.;)

I was thinking the same thing. I film a lot and to get something like that on film or just to see would be absolutey awesome. Great story!

It was wayyyy past dark when the deer thing happened, I couldnt see it anyhow, until it broke the laurel infront of me, It diddnt slip in till after dark.
