"stopping" deer?

How many of you actually stop a buck by mouth grunting, whistling, or yellingto him? Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the last thing on my mind is alerting a buck to my presence. I'll take my chances that he will stop on his own eventually where I can get a shot off or we'll meet another day. Seems to me like 99% of the hunts I watch on TV everyone has to "stop" the buck. Maybe it just looks cool for the cameras.

I have grunted at them a couple of times. It works and they don't alway know where its coming from. The 5 point I shot last year was because of that. I missed my first shot and he went to leave and I grunted real quick and he calmed down and stuck around, then I was able to get off another shot and the whole time he never knew where I was. Thats just my experience with a mouth grunt.

I always stop a deer by mouth grunting when it looks likeit will keep moving. I have learned my lesson long ago about shooting at a walking deer. However I am at full draw and on target when I do so so when the deer stops and looks in my direction the arrow is on it's way before he realizes it.

I hunt on the ground... there is no way I'm going to alert any deer to my position. I generally kill themright on top of me. Definitely do more harm then good by trying to stop them. [:'(]

NOPE, don't believe in stopping them or even attempting to. I'll take a shot a a casually walking deer any day to putting one on alert that I'm around. BUT, if you usually just wait they'll stop to feed, sniff or scratch something.I've never attempted to stop a deer.... EVER.

PLUS, I've seen too many deer turn themselves inside out on TV trying to get away when someone tried to stop them. And half the ones that do stop usually don't stop until they're behind something. Some take a step, some 3 or 4. MOST ALL of them when they do stop look straight at the source of the noise. I only grunt when chopping wood. LOL

Depends on the distance. I am not going to shoot at a walking deer at 30 yards, but may consider it at 10 yards ona deer moving slowly. I will usually stop deer that are close because they won't be able to duck the arrow if it is 10 yards or less..at least not significantly. If a deer is moving fast at 25-30 yards, I usually will not try to stop them and put them on alert, I like to let them stop on their own.

I agree totally with Davidmill and TJF!

What I can't figure out Is why do people think they have to stop a deer when they are walking slowly? It's not that hard shooting them while walking. Each to there own though.

Depends on how far and how fast they are walking. For me stopping the deer is only a last resort kind of thing, not a first thought in my head.

I have always stopped deer bya mouth "MEEEE" bleet or grunt what ever you want to call it. I have never had a deer bolt away or even spook with this. Deer stops and deer dies.....
