With all the Horror Stories...

......about problems with other hunters lately, I though I'd share last nights' trip. I got out of work early and instead of going home and mowing the yard I stopped by a small tract of public ground on the way home. When I arrived there were already 4 other trucks in the lot (this is a small area) but thought what the heck - it's still huntin. A younger guy had pulled in just in front of me and we shared the normal small talk and decided which part we were both headed to, but also discovered we had a hunting buddy in common.

We walked in together and he went to set up about halfway back, I got settled in and had another hunter immediately walk thru my set[:@]

Anyway, saw nothing and headed back in at dark. When I got to the lot my new friend was standing there and had shot a button buck, his first deer with a bow. I went back in with him and helped drag it out (caught hell for it when I got home, but worth it) and when we got back another hunter had returned, this one with a buck down.

This guy some of you may have heard about - he climbed up a tree to escape the flood waters of the Missouri River just a couple weeks ago when the water came up very quickly whilewas out hunting. I didn't stay around to see the deer, so no pics guys[&o](There is a limit to the abuse I'll take for staying out)

So two good experiences out of one hunt, met a new hunting friend and helped him drag out his first bow-kill andanother guy who got to even out his luck this year.

For the vast majority, hunters are great people and make even better friends. Sure there a few out there that about as smart as a brick, but like I said, most are down to earth good people. Glad to hear you make a new hunting buddy, you can never have too many of those. I hope the wife did not lay into you too bad!

Kickin - It was still a little tense this morning - I'd better be good tonight.:)

It was also good to talk to the guys that are hunting out there and find out that they are all the type of guys you'd want to hunt / share the woods with.

There are more good guys that are hunters than bad I truly believe, it's just in a game when you are trying to stay undetected you don't get to meet them as often. So, the bad ones end up standing out. It's good to hear a positive story about some other hunters and even though you caught hell it sounds like a great night of hunting.

Sounds like you made the right decision to hunt than to go home and mow.

Definitely the right decision, now I'm looking forward to being out there when he gets his buck tag filled. Kind of looking forward to tonight too:)
