Why do you use mechanical heads?T
If this has been done before I apologize. I was just wondering this today. I am betting that most people use them basically because they dont know how to tune their bow for their broadheads.
I got a new bow last week and today I went to shoot my broadheads. It probly took 15 minutes max and I was hitting a 4" circle at 40 yds. with my fixed blades. I dont have anything against mech. heads and I will probly still use them for turkeys myself. Just curious. rick |
RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
Cutting diameter.......I doubt i will ever use a broadhead for deer from a compound anymore that will have a cutting diameter under 1.5" for a 3 blade.
I like 1.75" and up for my high energy set ups.:) |
RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
I don't one more thing to go wrong. Since my Muzzys fly true I'll stick with them.

RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
I still plan on using mech. heads for turkeys because of the huge cut and their small vitals but for everything else I plan on using fixed blades. I just dont see the point I guess. Like you said one more thing to go wrong. My last two deer with fixed have went 30 yds. What more can you ask for?
I see posts all the time on forums about how guys cant get their broadheads to hit right, etc. rick |
RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
Because I have the KE to do it, when they come out with a 10"cut I will shoot them to. If I was worried about 1 more thing going wrong I would be using an osage bow and cedar shafts.[8D]

RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
The only legitimate reason to use a mechanical is cutting diameter.

RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
I have not tried them yet, but come saturday i will be waiting with a rage head, I want DAMAGE!! Big holes and lots of blood!! I really want to see what all the hype is about...

RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
Actually you don't have the choice of "Safety: no exposed cutting surface" so I put "None of your damn business".
|
RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
I use them for turkeys to get more cutting area...

RE: Why do you use mechanical heads?T
That is a nice plus of the mechanical heads. I always liked that.

Just curious. rick Did you start this to stroke your own ego? But anyway, here is why I use a rear opening mechanical. Mechanicals will flutruer than a fixed under hunting conditions: shot distance from 0-60, weather conditions (wind and cold with all the clothes on), torque on the bow, release. With today's bows and the KE they put out there is no reason to waste that energy on a small fixed head. Use that energy on a larger cutting mechanical. It will inflict more damagewith larger holes and shot placement for shot placement give you better blood trails. Frankly, I can't understand why you would shoot a small fixed head when you could shoot a rear opening expandable like the Rage. |
