I was thinking yesterday, that I would rather have a small buck around my stand that I didn't want to shoot over having a mature doe around my stand that i didn't want to shoot.. the doe will blow ya cover everytime if she hangs around long enough...those old does are so annoying with their head bobs and foot stomping.....I mean they look for danger way more than a young buck does IMO... what about you??

I consider a mature doe a trophy in her own right. It'll be a seldom circumstance when I wouldn't take her if given the cahnce.

So, technically.....Yes. We agree. If I'm hunting for a buck (outside the rut)....and I have does around me....I know I'm in the wrong place.

yes, a mature doe is a trophy deer for sure. she is a very smart and alert creature. perhaps even smarter than a mature buck....ok, I won't go that far.;) but if Im not shooting either one on this hunt, then I want that buck under me rather than her

yah the mature doe is much more aware and spooky of her surroundings and she will eventually find out somethings up and your gig is over

Any mature deer is going to be harder to fool than a young deer regarless of the sex.

I have often felt that a young buck seems like the dumbest animal in the woods.

I got busted by a mature doe on Saturday. If they hang around your standfor awhile you are sure to get busted.

those big does give me the craps! I have had little buck look at me for minutes and put there head down and start eating and doe they friggin will go nuts!

Come to think of it.....I don't think I've ever been busted (that I know of) by a juvenile buck. Does? Does yesterday morning count?[8D]

Last year my very 1st sit for the year was probably my hardest sit ever deer hunting. I had 4 very mature huge looking doe's come In to my stand at about 12 yards. They knew something was up but couldn't quite pick me out In the tree. They stared me down and tried to smell me for exactly 1 hour. I had my bow up and ready just In case a buck was following them. I never moved for an hour straight, my arm was damn near dead to the world from holding my bow up being I couldn't move an Inch. Every time one doe would take her eye's off of me another would take her place and try to figure me out. Low and behold none of them figured me out In the tree or smelled me (good wind) and finally they all made there way an hour later. I was shaking like a leaf being I damn near ran out of arm strength holding my bow out for an hour straight without moving an inch. I take more pride In that hunt then any other hunt I've been on In 23 years bow hunting.

Them doe's had heads that I swore were a foot and a half long. The smallest of the 4 I figured was 130lbs, the biggest had to be close to 150lbs. The worst part of the whole situation that evening was that none of the doe's had fawns. That just goes to show once again that we do not have the bucks around to breed the majority of the doe's here In Minnesota. The date was October 22nd, 2 days before I shot my P&Y buck.

Last year, one of the funniest things that happened to me was the night I had a spike under me in my oak tree stand. Nearing dark, I was pelting him with acorns to try to get him to leave. I had to have a buddy walk up in the field to get him out so I could get down. Big does get me all the time....I swear the walk around with their heads up in the air.

Last year I had a fork horn bed right under my stand, (12 ft up) After he browsed around for 45 min, then he must have got tired so he decided to take a snozze, layed there for the better part of an hour, till two does walked in, within 30 seconds they busted me. man I hate that!!!!!

Deerwise, the only thing dumber than a 1.5 yo buck is an orpaned fawn. A 2.5 yo buck isn't too far behind his 1.5yo counterpart.

The only thing smarter than a mature doe is a mature buck. Actually, the buck isn't any smarter, just more elusive.

Yep, I hate those "alpha doe" being anywhere near me unless I am wanting to fill a doe tag that day and then I'll likely blow it.

Honestly if it’s a deer I’m not wanting to shoot, I don’t want it around at all regardless of what it is. Yea nice to see & move thru, but keep going.

yep, never take a Doe lightly. They are one sharp piece of walking venison ;)
