RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
ORIGINAL: GMMAT If you don't hook up, period.....I'd say you needed chastising. I deserve everything I get for doing it the way I was doing it. Flame on. I'm just one who'll admit I was doing it wrong. If I climbed 20 times....I would hook up ten of them (on the way up and down). I'm just saying I'll do it all the time now. I will say the safety rail on both my climbers gave me a sense of security. Not enough. |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
lol ya i figure it this way i need to be as quick as possible so i do not get shot in the first place. A friend who is 17 was telling me how he got into a fight and him and his buddy chase this guy down. i looked at him and said know what i would do if yo came running up to me starting **** i would shoot you died and when the cops showed up you would have a knife in your hand.
Thats why i stopped fighting in school one day some where you will get into a fight with the wrong guy or guys. I learnt that the hard way. A guy start some stuff with me and 4 of my friends. Then when he threated to kill me i popped him in the mouth. I figured 5 of them 5 of us no big deal. until the four with me where two blocks the other way running. I ended up getting bricked in the head. but two of them had broken noses. I told my self the next time i got in a fight it better be worth killing someone over. The only one i been in since was with the guy who jumped. me when he came over to my house with my brothers friend. ORIGINAL: bawanajim ORIGINAL: bigtim6656 hey i am bullet proof after the first gun fight. i wonder if i have enough fat to stop the bullet :D ORIGINAL: bawanajim Every one of usis ten foot tall and bullet proof until our first gun fight.;) |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
It's always fun till someone chips a tooth!!lmao That is fighting of course.Tree stand safety is no joke, I never used to wear a harness which was really dumb, until I had my son. After I started wearing a harness my friends dad fell out of a stand and died, then two weeks later one of his best buddies fell and died. I love hunting and fishing, but It's not worth dying over!!!

RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
I dont wear one going up or down either.
BUT, you cant tell me your going to hook a harness around a tree that has 5-10 limbs on the way up. That IMO would be more dangerous than just hanging on to the sticks. After straping around, unstraping, etc...Though, The Prusick style would be good for that situation, but I dont do that either. But Im always hooked at the top. I know it should be different. |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
I have an idea, though. And you guys can tell me what you think about it.
You know how your harness has the tether attatched? what if you hook that to each of the pegs as you climb? Seems like it would work very efficiently to me. |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
It's not much different than your seatbelt in your car/truck. Yes, you can still get hurt wearing one. Are your chances reduced by wearing it or not wearing it?
Buckmaster, I suggest for trees with limbs, use the 25ft safety rope and prussic. You will be hooked up ascending and descending. To me, this is easier than the harness and safety rope that you slide up the tree. (Even on straight trees without limbs and using a climber. Don't wear "protection" just once on a dateand you may become a father. Don't wear protection just once on a hunt and you may become a vegetable. Bravery and pride are stupid when accidents can be avoided. LT |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
According to one of the guys over at the NC Hunting website, one of the locals was telling several guys at a bow shop about his close call a couple of weeks ago...This guy was there and his brother had given him a new harness....It was found in the truck...
Funny, I'm scared of heights...My "fix" is to attach myself to the tree as soon as I get into a climber... When attached to the tree, I'm fine...That's also why I don't hunt out of loc-on type stands anymore, never felt safe in them and at 6'5" and 250, the dang things are just too small...Back when I used a Baker treestand, I never was comfortable, and back then, nobody used a harness...I'm just glad I lived through those dang things... |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
Its really encouraging, both here and several other forums,to see the push for all to be hooked up ALL the time!
Less and less resistance all the time - I have added the ascender lines to my ladder stands as well as the sticks and hangons this year. Also no guest is allowed off the ground without being hooked up - or they don't hunt. I have a question for those not using harnesses yet - do you have someone who cares enough about you to wipe your butt when you can't? Steve |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
ORIGINAL: GR8atta2d I don't climb or descend with a harness, don't understand what good it would do. It would have to be so loose, it would do little to save you, and the added crap in the way would only serve to make the climb/descent more dangerous.I do wear one when "up" in my climber 99% of the time. However, Irarely even take a harness, if headed forone of my ladder stands. |
RE: GMMAT don't show Lisa this one.........
ORIGINAL: Rob/PA Bowyer I would if I used the one you and GMMAT use, in my Ol'man I'm not worried one bit. I secure it once at my destination height and unbuckle it when I'm position to climb down. |
