Tying a rope around yourself is a bad idea. Its not meant for stopping a fall, it could slide up and do some damage.

What would be better? You wearing and being connected from the ground up/and back down, or your wife and/or kids having to look at you in a casket before your time? Don't be stupid. Use one and use it right.

Matt:

Your timing is impeccable.

I hunted this evening......and I'll come clean on why Matt addressed this to me. I don't hook up on the way up and down. Or....I didn't, until now. Don't get me wrong.....I hook up sometimes....but not EVERY time. Flame away....I deserve(d) it.

I was coming down tonight.....UNHOOKED.....(viper) and the top portion slipped. I didn't even come CLOSE to falling....but it scared the total **** outta me. I was shook.

You got it, Matt......I won't show it to her. But I'm hooking up. Like I said....your timing was "perfect".

Jeff, isn't this EXACTLY what you chastised me for, not too long ago?;)

If you don't hook up, period.....I'd say you needed chastising. I deserve everything I get for doing it the way I was doing it. Flame on. I'm just one who'll admit I was doing it wrong.

If I climbed 20 times....I would hook up ten of them (on the way up and down). I'm just saying I'll do it all the time now. I will say the safety rail on both my climbers gave me a sense of security. Not enough.

I don't climb or descend with a harness, don't understand what good it would do. It would have to be so loose, it would do little to save you, and the added crap in the way would only serve to make the climb/descent more dangerous.I do wear one when "up" in my climber 99% of the time.

However, Irarely even take a harness, if headed forone of my ladder stands.
