Do big boys ever act like this?

Yesterday I killed a doe butdecided not get down to retrieve my arrow until it was time to head out.Right atdark, a buck comes into the acorn grove I was guarding and was being all crazy...

I couldn't see him 'cause he was a good 75yds away but I knew it was a buck because I could hear antlers knocking branches. Anyway, he came in and was running around like some hyper dog making laps in the shape of an oval track that's 50yds long. Then he would rub a tree then make another lap. Funniest thing was after the 2nd lap he ran in the direction of a nearby swamp/pool and frikkin jumped in making a big ol' splash. He proceeded to make another rub followed by one last lap. After that I could hear him foraging around. He wouldn't leave so I just quietly got down.

My guess is that this is a 2.5 or younger buck. What do you think?

I've seen young bucks do this around small watering holes.

I think you came across a "special" deer. Special Olympics style;):D

I've seen two basket racks do the same kinda thing, chase each other around a little bit, but never a biggun.

And this will only happen when you're trying to get out of the stand and get home. :D Made 25 minutes late getting back one night [&:]

I've seen does do that. They'll chase each other around the field a couple times then stop and act like nothing ever happened.

Guess that buck was just having a good day!

I've sen bucks do that too around a shallow pond. They would just run up and down the sides of the pond through the water. I think they were just playing.

Seen the same thing at a creek crossing I hunt. Most often younger bucks.

Perhaps he is sick!! Or maybe he had a bug in his ear and he couldnt get it out so he was running around in circles in pain!!!

Thanks Dan. You know I'm available pretty much any day so just let me know if and when you can get out.

I've seen does doing it as well, also around a pond. The weather was warm and it was mid afternoon. The would chase each other and jump into the pond and run around, jump in again. It really was rather amusing. They were oblivious to me watching them.Definately looked like play.
