sawtooth oak acorns
 

anybody have any experience planting these? I know they're supposed to grow really quickly but i was wondering how the deer like the acorns from these trees...thanks for any help!

I'm told thatacorns from the white oak family are the sweetest. White oaks produce every year, red oak family every other year. Most White oaks 20 + years before they produce acorns. I believe NWTFpromote Burr Oaks and Sawtooth Oaks, two of the fastest growing / acorn producing in the white Oak family. They say a Burr Oak can produce as much as 150 pounds of acorns in a season and should start producing in as little as seven years.

Start producing after seven years- planted a bunch. The beauty is they are the first to start dropping. When everything else is on deck getting ready, the sawtooths are shuckin em onto the ground- and yes deer seem to pummel them like White oak acorns.

I planted 50 or so 3.5 years ago. They are doing great and hopefully half way to producing acorns. Most trees are well over 6 foot tall. They started as 6 inch seedlings.

Supposed to be bitter, I dont think the deer will eat them unless they absolutely have to, same with alfalfa, its pretty bitter for deer.
