Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
I ordered some Magnus Snuffers and am going to try them out...anyone else use or have used these heads? ![]() |
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
My best friend uses them with much success.
I've tracked a lot of animals he's shot with them, they are great heads. And have proven effective out of his bow. |
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Thanks MN---I like the look of them and have heard they are tough and durable. Plus they don't cost $12-$15 a head...just like 4-5 bucks a head.

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
I started using them this season out of my Longbow! I can't wait to send one thru a deer. It takes a bit to get them razor sharp but well worth it! Lifetime warranty, ya gotta love. Send the head in and they will send you new ones, no questions!!!!!!!

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
I'll be shooting them from my Black widow recurve...the 150gr screw in model.
Like was mentioned they are a little touchy to sharpen but once you get the hang of it you can get them shaving sharp. I actually shot my very first buck with one of these 18 years ago so they hold a soft spot for me. :) |
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Thanks Matt...to me, there is something nostalgic about fixed blade heads and some of them have a certain look that just feels right to me....I am excited to shoot the Magnus Snuffers. I have been shooting the G5 Montecs the last week or so and like them, but not for $13 a head.

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
the look like g5 montecs and those are very nice heads...i would have to imagine they are very nice.

I ordered some Magnus Snuffers and am going to try them out Here's the crock sticks that I use. The white crocks are the fine ones, the darker the crocks the more coarse they are. ![]() Sharpening 2 blades at once. ![]() The finished product. Your right, they do look mean and trust me they are tough!!! ![]() |
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
I shoot them out of the compound, recurve and longbow. Mainly because I like to find somthing that works and stick with it. I am sure once you get them sharp you will be happy with them.

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
yeah me and Shultzy sent a few PMs back and forth on these things. He was a REALLY big help to me in getting these things shaving sharp. It takes a bit of effort but man its worth it. I was considering going with something else but not anymore. I hope to send one through a deer Saturday morning. Opening day! Thanks again Shultzy! people like you are why I love this place!

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Thanks again Schultzy---what angle of sharpness do I need to put on the Snuffers? I am asking because I may be able to pick up those sharpening sticks somewhere around here and need to know the info. THANK YOU.
|
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
They're similar to the Wensel Woodsmans, which are also a good head. I'm going with a Magnus Stinger this year. Sharp out of the package.

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Fantastic, thank you. I need to re-sharpen a knife I made out of an antler years ago. It has gotten dull as heck.
|
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Steve-O you pull the head towards you and with a downward motion with the point towards you when sharpening the Snuffers, is this correct???

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
ORIGINAL: Schultzy Sharpening 2 blades at once. ![]() Joe- Start close to the top with the BH tip pointing away from you and slowly go down the shaft of the stick pulling It towards you as well. Work on one side of the head for a good 15 to 20 strokes and then turn It and go to the next side of the head. Keep repeating until your happy with the edge. Some of the edges will sharpen quicker then the others. Some of the edge's may take a little more attention then the others. |
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Thanks Steve. I might just look into this system! I use the old file and stone way to sharpen mine, sure was a chore but well worth the effort!
|
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
I have used them since Rodger introduced them to the public with my Trad bows, and off and on with the compound.
Sharpen them with a standard flat Diamond, Ceramic, or Arkansas stone, and finish them up on a strap of leather to take any burs off. ![]() Start. ![]() Finish. ![]() Take burs off with leather strap. Always remember to hit each side of the broadhead the same amount of times so the point stays centered or they wont true to your arrows. This takes longer than with ceramic sticks because the majorty of the blades are always in contact with the stone, but it is easy to take to much off of theback or tip of the broadhead with the sticks because of the very small surface area that is touching. |
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
My budddy shoots these and swears by them. They seem to be a great BH.

|
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Oh boy' I think I like them! I'll be back......
|
RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
Yep, I like them! It took me a second or two to find the right amount of pressure but they are sharper than when i started, which is a good thing. Good purchase, thanks Steve for the heads up, easier then my file and stone method!
John, what is the trick to the leather finishing???? |

RE: Going Schultzy style--anyone use these?
You strap them on the leather same as the stone or crock sticks Joe, it takes off the burs and polishes the cutting edge.
They will actually feel sharperwith the burs on,but on contact with somthing like a deer hide these fine burs fold over or break off causing flat spots on your cutting edge. You will be able to seetiny flakes of the blade on the leather after you start. |
