DT-
IMO, your bucks are in the standing corn. When the corn is cut, their options for food and cover will be severely limited.
Agree?

I tend to agree about the standing corn, food and cover. Acorns usually offer deer cover but no where near the amount of avaiable food. If you have an oak flat that is covered with acorns that's one thing but if it is just a couple of oaks here and there you may want to get near the corn.

Another thing I'll mention is as much as I am dying to hunt and I normally would be hunting right now but my NC land I have not hunted this season so I have to wait til Oct 4 for VA, anyway as much as I want to go even when the season opens I will ony hunt perimeter stands ie field edges or just inside, powerline right of ways, old trails, logging decks, easy access creek bottoms where I can walk in on the creek, etc.

The main reason being I don't want to alert any big bucks I'm there I don't want to intrude "too" much. And from those stands I can usually take a doe or something and do a little "recon" of the area, almost like observation stands. Around Oct 20 or so I will start venturing further in to some of my better stands near bedding areas, in the marsh, etc.

I only mention it because it sounds like you guys are hunting a ton and not really seeing the bucks you know are there. It doesn't matter too much if you know they are there, what matters is if they know you are.

Anyone want to compare notes on deer movement ?

What did you see?

Where did you see it ?

What time did you see it ?

How often did you see it ?

This past week was ROUGH for me. I'm not sure if it was the moon position or the fact that the corn is prime for the deer or what.

I hunted AM and PM on the 13th- no bucks. Hunted AM and PM on Monday- no bucks. I was hunting acorns and water.

Brother hunted the edge of a standing corn field, over a "little clearing"- saw one 2.5yo buck.

I moved to a bean field set, saw a really beautiful 2.5yo buck cruise the woodline a few yards behind me.

Throughout the rest of the work week I hunted differentacorn locationsevery afternoonandonly saw one buck on the walk out as he was standing in the bean field near our barns, and my truck.

Hunted AM and PM on Saturday- in the AM we saw a bunch of doe and 2 bucks that were far off in the timber. I couldnt make out exactly what they were but both were tending to seperate scrapes- I would assume they were young.

So, thats a WHOLE week with no mature buck sightings. Keep in mind that we had out trail cameras stolen. I highly doubt someone poached the mature bucks because 1- theres 7 or 8 of them, doubt they would get all of them. 2- there is NO way to spotlight and "jack" these fields without being seen, plus the deer are hundreds of yards from any road.

I dont think anyone trespassed adn hunted, because we were all over this property....No one saw anything.

So- lets here your notes....

I guess it may have been the moon phase. As I would drive out of the farm at night, I'd see bucks bedded in the tall grass(only one 3.5yo, rest looked young). So I guess they were moving at night and early morning due to the moon and temps ?

This is a great idea DT. We should keep this weekly recap going throughout the season. It will be cool to see how everyone's season is going with all the different variables coming into play.

I hunted 2 mornings and 2 evenings in that time span. About 13 hours total, with 31 deer seen. So pretty much seeing deer the whole time..
