QUESTIONS??
 

Alright this might be a dumb question but do deer move with the wind or against it? For some reason I don't think it matters but I always thought they moved against the wind. But then it makes sense to move with it because they could see what is in front and smell what is behind them.

On more question, when you find a buck rub facing the food area, does that mean the buck is leaving the food source in the morning heading back to the the bedding area. And when the rub is facing the bedding area or woods, they are hitting the food source at night leaving the woods?

Not a dumb question at all.;) They do both like you said. It depends on the situation also I believe.

That's a good question Stab!! I think what you say Is right but not always right. Bucks I believe will make rubs also when they feel like It or when there hormones go crazy all of a sudden.

I've seen deer move with, against, across and every other angle that you think of pertaining to the wind. They still travel their same routes no matter which way the wind is blowing.

Now to the rubs. Rublines not rubs that are facing away from a food source such as a cornfield are being hit in the evening. Look at is this way, a buck wakes up from his afternoon nap and decides he is hungry. He starts making his way to the "corn field". On his way he works his rubline all the way to the food source. In the morning it is just the opposite. IMO it is harder to hunt rublines in the morning because the smart ones usually make it back to their beds in the cover of darkness. On the other hand, hunting the evening rublines is something I love to do and have had great success. If you can find a "good rubline", follow that all the way back to the bucks bedding area. If you jump him don't worry to much about it. Hang your stand immediately as close as you can to the bedding area. When I say close I'm talking within 75yrds if the terrain permits. Wait for the right wind and be ready about 30 min. before dark. This paid off for me big time 2 yrs ago on a 140" class 8pt.

If your interested in hunting rublines Greg Miller wrote one of the best books on the subject. This guy knows how to hunt rublines. Its called Rubline Tactics. I've got the book, if you want to read it I will send it your way. A lot of the pages are high lighted and a lot of pages are leafed over but I will gladly let you borrow it.

thats funny I was just thinking of that scent thing the other day stab, and for the rub thing, good question guy, Would sure like to figure that one out. Have you checked out that massive rubline you showed me last year?

How close might a buck bed be to the rublines? seems most all the rub lines I find are in really thick marshy cover, and the bedding area would be that so how do you get into that?

Tell you the truth, I don't even want to step in that area. I hung a another stand in there and there was rubs on some smaller trees but none on the oaks or cedars. I want to save that 40 for later October.

If I had that situation I wouldn't even go in there. I would sit close but just outside the marsh. But then again your property lay out is a lot different then mine. You have a big crick, thick tamaracks, some hard woods and a lot of beans and corn. If you go into the marsh I would go like a hour before daylight and settle in there. A lot of your bigger bucks will try to make it to their bedding area before light IMO.
