request for everyone

I am not going to be able to hunt this year due to a back injury. I was hurt at work in March and have been fighting with work comp the whole time, they keep wanting me to do this and do that well I do it then it is this and that. Any way my Dr. wants to do a fusion to my L5,S1 vertabre and I haven't heard if it will be approved or if I am going to have to go back to court to get it done. My request is that you all be sure to share your stories so I can at least be a part of hunting that way. I am really down about all this and want to be out in the deer woods so bad I can taste it. I did manage to get some new hunting land for next year though.

I was a member of this board a few years ago but if I remember right there was quite a bit of bickering and I got tired of it and left. Looking at the posts here it seems to all be taken care of os I hope I will be back and enjoy the comrodery from you all.

I shoot a Mathews LX at 75#'s with beemen ICS camo hunters and Magnus stinger 100grn broad heads, I really like the setup it shoots real nice the broad heads fly just like my field tips. I live in IL,anyway enough about me. Good luck to all of you and please keep me informed and please excuse any typos I have been up for a long time I find it hard to get comfortable with the back injury.

Thank you all

Sorry to hear about your misfortune 74. I will be sure to do some extra hunting for you. You think there is any chance for gun hunting this year for you?

RE: request for everyone

I don't gun hunt, but I think it would be a bad thing for me because I can't stand up straight and I don't think it would be good with the jaring from a gun but thanks for the thought

I feel for you. I have had multiple back surgeries (5) starting with discectomies on L4-L5. I had two before they fused it in 2004. Now they want to fuse L5-S1 but I have said that I will put it off until I cant walk. I am climbing trees, and walking miles to my hunting areas and its the best therapy I have ever had. Ive been in every therapy they have offered....aqua, stretching, etc. but actually getting out and walking is the best you can do for your skeletal mucsles to compensate for that disc area. Trust me I have been through it for twelve years now.

I always had good drugs to take the pain away, but dont let them impair your abilities. Excercise, and dont always believe what the dr says, espesially when it omes to light hunting...like walking without a pak on your back, and always hunting with friends to help you out. get a good ground blind, a comfy chair, and use every muscle God gave you!

You will be suprised! I am...climbing trees, carrying pack, and just getting out in nature will cure just about any ailment....much better than a bed or couch!

HV I would love to do that but my disc has actually slid over and is between the verterbre so I can not stand and walking just kills me I am lucky if I can stand and walk for more than 15 minutes

Hoyt while I agree with you that it is probably the best therapy to get out and walk, hunt, etc..., but that may be a bit risky if he is fighting with Workers Comp..:D... Imagine explaining that one in court[8D]!!!

Gd Luck with everything 74, I will share as many good times as I can with ya!!!

Sounds like you have yet to have surgery. GO TO A NEUROSURGEON! stay away from ortho's. They come to the table with a hammer, chisel and an attitude that will scare ya. Sounds like you have nerve damage aswell ( did) and only let a neuro do my surgery. Mine had slipped so far over it was impeding on my spinal chord, I could not stand or walk either. As soon as I got my MRI they had a bed waiting for me. They can realign everything and stabilize it with rods, screws, and other methods.

Yep, it may not be a good idea to let WC find out you are doing things like I presented, but mine was my own fault and they had me walking the next day. Muscles are the key. They will do their job and help keep things in line if you build them up. Best thing for post surgery is stretch and GET OUT OF THAT BED and WALK.....Walk as much as possible....no pain...no gain. God made us with two legs, two arms, two eyes, two ears,....and one frickin back. Be careful but laying around will not allow bones to heal. Dont smoke, drink caffeine, but stretch and walk hourly!

My best advice!

Three surguries under my belt 74#. I hung my head in shame as I went to pick up my crossbow permit. It let me continue to hunt and worked well with ground blinds so I didn't have to climb. If I shot something I called a Pal to drag the beast out.
I feeling great now and plan on using the Hoyt this year. Got it backed down so much I'm worried aboutthe limb pockets objecting. If it's real cold out I will carry the crossbow as the back just doesn't likebeing chilled. Still keep my shots under 30yds ranged so I still get that close up experience.
Don't let your back drag you down to much but it sure suks always being in pain.
