1st day...not so good.
I got out here nice and early...my situation looked great..Then, about 7:00 AM I hear the palmettoes breaking ..My bow is already in my hand and an arrow nocked..it's within 40 yds..Th eole nerves start kicking in...I'm ready to stand..And I see 3 hunters busting branches..I whistled..they didn;t care..they set up these stands right there..[:@][:o][&o]....and I got out of the tree..asn walked back to my truck..There were 7 trucks parked beside mine..[&o]adn someone left a brand new Summit VIper on the ground behind his truck..Yeah..the thought ran across my mind to grab it..BUT I figured the Lord would deal with me harshly..so I left it..;)
I've got another spot next week..ticks me off though 1 1/2 miles deep ..should have been far enough I thought.. |
RE: 1st day...not so good.
that sucks. I lost one this year due to a small campfire and dirtbike tracks under my tree, along with 30 empty beer cans. only 1/2 mile in though. good luck with your next one

RE: 1st day...not so good.
That stinks, Bro ..... isn't there a member in your church that you can hunt with, or maybe an off the beeaten path place you can go?
good call on the tree stand;) |
RE: 1st day...not so good.
Chuck, thats a tough break man....Hang in there bro, I hope your other spot pan's out better for you. You are the bigger man for not taking their stand!!;)

RE: 1st day...not so good.
Chuck...go back and analyze the land you hunt and do the same with some aerial maps.....then figure out where the other hunters are not hunting. You will be better off being far away from other people if there is that much pressure on your hunting grounds.

RE: 1st day...not so good.
I am sorry to here about that as well Chuck! Is there anyplace about 1/4 mile from them that you might be able to set up in? It sounds like with all those other hunters in there that the deer will be moving away from that spot pretty soon. Good luck on finding a new spot..

RE: 1st day...not so good.
chuck,
i'm sure you will be rewarded in the future for not taking the stand.... |
RE: 1st day...not so good.
You could try to use the other hunters to your benefit, the deer will pattern them quick enough ??

RE: 1st day...not so good.
Thanks guys,
Actually the other spot is better..The are more acorns there..This particuliar spot I was at this morning was good because it holds a big buck..I thought it was a secluded area..and the terrain is so thick the deer are more apt to move some.. Next week's spot is not as far as a walk..I've seen 3 times as many bucks and deer. there anyways...It' s more open though and not a great situation for a bow stand..EXCEPT for this one secret spot..;)so I'll be there. As far as the stand..I firgured I already have a problem dealing with over eatting ..I don't need to add being a thief to part of my problems.;)It looked brand new and even had the camo skirting around it..I can't believe someone would just lay it on the ground in back of thier truck..and yes..those dudes were so noisy there is no way they will get that big deer. The WMAs are quiet during weekdays ..so I'll be back during general gun and give the CAN a little workout.. Archery here is only on weekends. The WMA was packed out[&o] |
RE: 1st day...not so good.
thats pretty impressive that you guys picked the same spot considering it was a mile and a half from the parking area and there were only 7 other trucks. Is there easy access to this spot? Did you leave reflective tacs or orange tape someone might have followed?

The first 1/2 mile is an easy trail..but the rest is thick stuff..and I placed my tacks far apart..I did talk about it quite abit on the South forum....and if someone followed my post closely they could have possible figured it out..not sure..or maybe it was a coinsedence..one thing for sure ..I'll be shutting up about where I hunt at..and no sir..I don'r use that flagger tape..and I had no tacks close to the trail.. I memorized the trees and other landmarks. Problably most bow hunters would rather hunt hammocks anyway.{ Hammocks are thick oak trees and palmetto stuff along wet lands or a river} It's the easiet place to get a close shot. and nice stand trees.. Some other places in central florida are bayheads..in which I will be at nest week..We have acres of thick berry bushes and palmetoes..fields that would be good for a 30-06..HUGE fields..However; the deer retire during the day in these THICK islands of skinny cypress trees..many are to skinny for a climber so theadvanced hunter looks for bayheads with nice acorn trees scattered in them..;)..with a wet watering hole..I'm not sure what kind of berries are in the field but the deer love them..looks like elder berries to me.. Here's an example of a bayhead/ cypress dome...only the brave go in..Water Moccassin city.[&o] ![]() |
