My dad's bear hunt this evening
 

As some of you know my bear hunt was a slow one for me this year. The bait I was hunting didn't have much going for me as most of our other baits were the same but I can't say the same for my dad (or my brother either I guess);). So far since the 1st of September my dad has seen a total of 5 bear hunting from 2 different stands/baits, that's pretty damn impressive and lucky to see that many bear In a bear season. So far he's had 4 of the 5 bear In range (15 yards and under) but none of the shots were good quality shots. Last night he had 2 bear come Into his bait a few minutes before It got to dark , one was 140lbs or so and the other was In that 300lb range. The bigger bear was directly under his stand, 7' below him and stayed there the whole time until It got dark and never offered a shot. He was a dandy and a definite P&Y bear with out a dought.

Well this evening he had the most entertaining and at the same time the most frustrating time bear hunting yet this year. At 5:00 pm he was walking Into his stand/bait and about 30 yards before he got to the bait he could see a very nice size bear bedded down broad side at the bait. He couldn't believe It!! **** he thought!! He knocked an arrow at 30 yards very quietly and the big boar heard him but didn't get up, **** he said again!! He couldn't believe the bear heard him knock his arrow!! All he did was turn his head and look and then turned his head back again. Slowly my dad carefully snuck to within 15 yards of the bear when the bear all of a sudden got up and got my dads wind and walked away. Dad couldn't shoot being there was a few sticks In the way for him to draw his longbow back. Dammit was the 1st thing he said to me tonight when I answered the phone!! Nothing showed the rest of the hunt this evening.

Yeah, that is a hell of a bear. I hope he gets a crack at it.

I stopped baiting.

My bear turned out to be nocturnal, and could do nothing to bring him out.

I may start again, next weekend. I don't like being beat[&:]

That sounds like an incredible hunt! I hope your Dad gets to put his hands on that bear.
