Elevated Ground Blind?
 

Has anyone ever done this? I'm thinking about building a 5 foot tall platform from scrap lumber I have that my blind would sit on top of. It would get me up above the brush a bit more so I could have a better view and even open up some additional shooting lanes. I'm thinking with the right concealment and brushing in, it would become part of the landscape. I'd also like this set-up for if my 5 year old starts tagging along next year.

Any tips or tricks if you have done so? Any cons? I know the elevation would eliminate some close shots but I don't like deer to get closer than 15-20 yards from the blind if I can help it anyway. Too close for my comfort near the ground.

I helped my brother set one up last year for gun hunting. It was about 10-12 feet off the ground and built a deck on top of it for the tent.

Not a bad idea but for bowhunting I think it should be brushed in pretty good or blend it with the surroundings.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was thinking of a 6x6, securing my hub blind on top,and then sinking it into a huge deadfall near some sloughes and transition areas. We have lots of deadfalls around and I think it could look like natural debris.

Ive built one a few years ago and I think it cost roughly $90. Works great for the kids. I set mine up awhile before season and they getused to seeing it and then I dont even brush it in.

Dbldroptine, I was thinking of that being an advantage too. I was thinking that less movement might be noticed by squirrely little ones that were along for the hunt if you were up even slightly above the deer's normal line of vision. Five to six feet up plus another couple of feet to the blind windows would help accompish this I would think. How high up is your blind? BTW, I'm not worried about my four year old busting deer, I'd just like him to be able to see some too and have a better view of the landscape.
