Should I even waste my time??
Do u guys thinks it is worth my time this early in the season to even go for morning hunts or should I mostly be going out in the afternoons in order to score on a buck? I hear a lot of people say that this early in the season the deer movement is minimal in the mornings? Any feedback would be appreciated.

you can't kill em if you ain't in the woods. be there every chance you get, just make sure it's the right place.. big bucks do move in the early season in the morning, but the window is small.

RE: Should I even waste my time??
It just all depends. That's why I love trail cams and constant scouting/glassing from afar during season. Right now, I'm seeing lots of activity right before legal shooting light in the morning and a couple of hours before. But each area is different. I've been out a few times butwon't get serious until late October. Does, does and more does. Notto say that they're an easy shot. But with family committments and work, I'd rather spend the longer sits and all day outings in the woods from the last week in October untilmid-November. My wife can't complain that much then, I get to spend more time with myvery small children, and my chances at a buck go up dramatically.

RE: Should I even waste my time??
People that don't see deer in the mornings are often hunting out of afternoon stand sets -near the outer edges of fields, crops, etc. Good morning stands are located more centrally (generally speaking). Why? Because the deer move out of the fields before first light and move to the bedding areas. If you can setup on one of these travel routes, closer to the bedding area, you have a chance at intercepting a buck moving. This is assuming however that he has to cover some distance to get to his bedding.
In one of the areas I hunt, all deer literally need to do to go from bedding to feeding is cross a 10yd wide firebreak and hop a fence - No chance for a morning hunt there. In another area, there is a small draw from the top of the ridge where the deer bed that goes down onto a little flat where their is a small corn field. Setting up towards the top of this draw or ridge can allow me to intercept deer as they move from field to bed. The food source in this case is the best one in the early season and that's the only reason I can hunt the longer travel corridor. Once the acorns really start dropping there, all bets are off on that one though - it's like having a fridge next to the bed or couch.:D |
RE: Should I even waste my time??
Don't go off of what other people say. You have to determine what the movement patterns of the deer you are hunting are. No one else can do it for you. In my circumstance, the likelyhood of getting a buck this time of year is much better in the morning than in the evening. They just aren't/don't move before dark this time of year around here, but they will sometimes still be out at first light.

RE: Should I even waste my time??
Deer move around every 3-4 hours, so it makes perfect sense to hunt in the morning. Actually, I've seen just as much movement in the morning as I have seen in the evening.

RE: Should I even waste my time??
I've always had my best success in the mornings regardless of the time of season. I'd get out there.

RE: Should I even waste my time??
I see them running around every morning, whether it be in the woods or on my way to work. I cant speak for where your from, but the mornings this week down here have been in the 50's. And the deer are loving it. Id hunt when you can, Morning or evening

RE: Should I even waste my time??
Most people say they see more deer in the evenings...well maybe its because most people hunt more evenings due to work! Duh!
If you can be in the tree, get there. |
